Two days later, in Northville.
After getting off the plane, Amelia immediately turned on her cell phone and saw two missed calls. One was from a stranger, while the other call was actually from Brittany!
Why would Brittany call her? She could not think of any reason for their contact.
Patrick came to her after picking up the luggage, and saw Amelia was staring straight at her phone. So, he could not help asking, "What's wrong?"
Amelia replied honestly, "Uh, Brittany actually called me. Who knows what she's trying to do this time."
Brittany?
Patrick frowned and grabbed Amelia's phone. He blacklisted Brittany from her contact list before returning the phone to her. "This woman is not worth your trouble!"
Amelia saw that how angry he was when Brittany was mentioned, she tugged at his sleeve and said in a soft voice, "I know. Don't be angry."
Patrick said reluctantly, "I'll kill her sooner or later."
"If you kill her, my father and Aunt Alice will have no one to rely on."
"Nonsense, don't they still have us?"
"Fine." Amelia stuck out her tongue and said, "We have been on the plane for more than ten hours. I'm so sleepy that I can hardly open my eyes. Let's go home quickly so we can take a nap."
On the way back to Land of Fragrance, Amelia's cell phone suddenly rang. She took it in her hand and found it was the strange number she saw when she had just turned on her phone.
After thinking for a while, she clicked the answer button and placed the phone at her ear, "Hello, who is this?"
"I'm Derrick."
At Hodyson Pavilion.
After a waiter saw the two figures at the entrance, he stepped forward and said respectfully, "Sir, miss, are you here for dinner or for someone?"
The two who entered were Patrick and Amelia. At the moment, it was Amelia who spoke, "We are looking for someone. Could you please take us to room No.2?"
The waiter led them to room No.2 and knocked on the door gently. There came a voice from inside,
"Come in." "This way please."
"Thank you, young man." After thanking the waiter, Amelia pushed the door open.
Derrick was sitting steadily on the main seat inside. As they were looking at him, he nodded slightly, signaling them to enter.
Amelia subconsciously held Patrick's arm tightly, reminding herself that she was no longer alone.
"I remember only inviting you. Why did he follow you here?"
Derrick was staring at Patrick, and Amelia replied calmly, "I've asked Mr. Hopper to come with me. If Mr. Simmons minds, we'll leave now."
"Wait!" Derrick raised his voice. "Come and sit down!"
Amelia licked her lips and sat on the seat opposite Derrick.
While Patrick sat on the right side of Amelia.
Derrick looked at Amelia and said with some dissatisfaction, "I didn't expect you to talk to me in such a bold way."
Amelia said flatly, "I don't think I'm inferior to you, so I think it's fine to say that."
Derrick reminded her coldly, "Don't forget, I'm still your nominal grandfather."
"Mr. Simmons, as you have said, it is just nominal."
How could Amelia be nice to the old man, who was the real murderer who killed Petty and had long ignored her, but gave her a deadly blow at the critical moment?
Derrick was so angry that his cheeks trembled.
Amelia asked indifferently, "Mr. Simmons, why would you look for me?"
As Amelia finished her words, there came knocks from the door. Derrick said, "Come in." then, a waiter came in pushing a dining cart. Before long, the waiter had served them all the food.
Derrick seemed to have forgotten what had just happened and gave orders, "Let's talk while eating."
Amelia secretly looked at Patrick, and he nod at her. So, she finally started eating.
Derrick witnessed their interaction and felt strange. "Aren't the both of you divorced? Why are you still going around in pairs?"
Amelia's words made not only Derrick, but also Patrick to irresistibly look at her with new eyes.
It seemed that she knew the current situation better than anyone else. Was it exactly the reason that she did not want to go back and fight for it?
After the shock, Derrick said, "Are you going to hand over your parents' inheritance to others just because of such a small obstacle? You are unfilial!"
"Such a small obstacle you say?" Amelia looked at him mockingly. "Mr. Simmons, you really talk nonsense without knowing anything. Back then, when the Apex Construction Corporation almost collapsed because of Daniel,
I was appointed in the face of risk. Now that I finally led the Apex Construction Corporation to the right track after all the twists and turns, you and Brittany tried to kill me.
And yet you are saying that I'm unfilial? If I were unfilial, I wouldn't have taken over the troublesome Apex at the moment. Other than me being unfilial, you guys are rather inhumane and unjust!"
"Gosh!" Derrick had never been criticized in that way. He immediately pounded the table and stood up.
As he stood up, Amelia looked up coldly and said, "Mr. Simmons, should you want to vent your anger very badly now? You never knew that I suffered more when I was forced by you and Brittany!"
Derrick stiffened his neck and said in a rough voice, "I didn't force you. I just went to confirm a fact."
"Which the fact is enough to crush me." Amelia coldly replied.
Derrick was suddenly speechless.
"To tell you the truth, although you have never cared about me for all these years, I've always respected you as my grandfather for the sake of my mother." In Derrick's slightly eased face, Amelia added, "But, all these turned into nothingness after the truth of my mother's suicide was revealed. You are no longer an elder in my eyes, but... an enemy who indirectly killed my mother."
Derrick who had just relieved a little, had his face darkened again as he heard Amelia's words.
Since the last time she met Derrick, Amelia had felt uneasy hiding things. Since that they finally met again, she would just say anything regardless. "Do you know how much I hate you? Because of you, I've always thought my mother's death had something to do with my father and Aunt Alice. I've hated them for long ever since her death. For so many years, my family has never been in harmony, but you, the culprit, have remained out of the matter. Yet you are still shameless enough to blame on me?"
Derrick gasped a little, but he could not refute. He was full of grievance.
The expression on Amelia's cold face suddenly became subtle, "Mr. Simmons, when you asked me over, shall you have thought that I will get on my knees to badly please you for the 20% of shares?"
Derrick could not help but feel a little embarrassed as Amelia was right.
Therefore, Amelia smiled and said, "It seems that you still don't know me well. My character is indeed the kind that would compromise and take care of the overall situation. But once my bottom line is violated, I would risk everything to have my enemy defeated!"
Derrick was shocked by her resolution that he stammered for a long time but could not say a word.
