Come To Me (Amelia and Patrick) novel Chapter 1612

Home of Smith.

It was rare for his younger sister to be back, so Hobart decided to rest at home during this period of time. He wanted to spend more time with her and observe her hands.

But Maryanne had left with her boyfriend early this morning. And it was already noon, but she had yet to return.

In this regard, Hobart could do nothing else other than murmur to himself.

In a twinkling, the doorbell sounded from the door. Hobart's face lit up with joy, and he motioned the maid to open the door.

"Mr. Hobart, Miss Maryanne Smith is back." When the servant appeared with Maryanne, the kind smile on Hobart's face evaporated in an instant.

He jumped up from the sofa immediately. With one hand around Maryanne's shoulder and the other on her chin, Hobart asked after he confirmed that her eyes were red and swollen, "Maryanne, why did you cry?"

Maryanne merely shook her head and replied in a hoarse voice, "Don't ask, Hobart."

Hobart seemed to remember something as he looked back at Maryanne. "Maryanne, why did you come back alone? Where's Milton?"

Maryanne let out an involuntary gasp when she heard Milton's name, and she barely managed to stop her tears from bursting when she entered the house. Hobart was in great shock at this sight.

"Maryanne, what did he do to you? Tell me, I'll avenge you!"

Maryanne sobbed and muttered, "Hobart, can you stop asking?"

"Tell me what's going on!" Hobart said in a low voice.

Maryanne sniffed and replied in a coarse voice, "Hobart... I want to go back to my room and rest..."

Hobart stared at her for a moment longer, and thought since when did Maryanne keep secrets from him?

He stroked Maryanne's haggard face and forced a smile. "Okay. I'll take you to your room, then you can rest."

"Hmm." Maryanne wiped away her tears with the back of her hand, and under Hobart's hurt gaze, she walked towards her room.

As soon as Maryanne made her way, Hobart followed behind her. Before Maryanne could turn around and closed the door, Hobart stopped her timely. He glanced at her with apprehension and asked, "Um, Maryanne, have you eaten yet?"

Maryanne shook her head despondently. She then pulled Hobart's hand away from the door and gently shut it.

Hobart, who was left outside her room, cursed in a low voice, "D*mn it! How did Milton take care of Maryanne? What time is it now? How can she come back on an empty stomach and her eyes so puffy?"

In the next second, he heard Maryanne locking the door. Hobart immediately banged on the door and yelled, "Maryanne! Don't lock the door! I promise I won't disturb you!"

Maryanne's action of locking the door horrified Hobart. What if something happened to her when she was alone in the room?

Just as Hobart's hands were about to swell from pounding the door, a faint sob came from inside the room. "Hobart... Just leave me alone for a while..."

Hobart was worried sick and anxious when he heard Maryanne. He said with concern, "Maryanne, no matter what happens, you have us! You have Dad, Mom, and me! Don't take things too hard, okay? I... I'll wait for you to eat with me."

After he finished speaking, Hobart lingered at the door for a while longer before he turned to leave.

When Hobart returned to the living room, the servant said from next to him, "Mr. Hobart, lunch is ready. Are you..."

Hobart waved his hand dismissively and replied, "Nevermind. I'll eat when Maryanne comes out. You can go on."

After the maid left, Hobart raised his gaze to look at Maryanne's closed door. He frowned and pondered for a moment before finally picking up his phone to call Milton.

However, his call was a futile attempt as Hobart did not pick up, which made Hobart even more certain that Maryanne's unusual behaviour had something to do with Milton!

Hobart was so infuriated that he wanted to get even with Milton right away. However, he had to restrain his fury in case Maryanne needed his care at home.

While Hobart was on the edge of his seat in the Home of Smith, Sierra also noticed that something was amiss with Milton.

Her son had returned without saying a word and did not answer her questions. So, Sierra asked with concern as Milton looked completely different from the morning when he headed out,

"Milton, did something happen to Amelia?"

Milton sat on the sofa in dispirit, his hands in his hair. Then, he hung his head low and replied nothing.

Sierra squatted down in front of him and tried to pull his hands down from covering his eyes. "Milton, I'm asking you a question. Can you reply to me?"

Finally, when she finally pulled Milton's hands down, she found that her son was crying.

Only then did Sierra realize the severity of the problem. She knew that ever since Milton grew up, he had not cried as he believed 'true men only weep when in deep grief'. So what was going on?

Hobart smiled in disappointment. "All right, then let's not talk about this anymore. Come and join me for dinner. You've been starving for an entire afternoon. It's bad for your stomach if you keep going on like this."

Maryanne could not refuse such care from her brother. "Hobart, thank you."

"Don't be silly. You know you don't have to thank me." Hobart seemed displeased, but he pinched Maryanne's nose endearingly before leading her out of the room to the dining table.

Hobart gave Maryanne some of her favourite dishes as they ate. However, she only took a few bites and could not eat anymore.

At this sight, Hobart put down his fork and said to Maryanne, "Maryanne, I'm full."

Though Maryanne was still immersed in the hurt from her broken heart, she was not muddled. So, when she saw that Hobart had eaten lesser than her, she asked, "Hobart, you ate so little. How can that be enough for you?"

"You've already had enough, so why can't I?" Hobart replied disdainfully.

"Hobart..." Maryanne looked at him helplessly.

Hobart continued frivolously, "If you don't want to eat, then I'll keep you company. When you want to eat, I'll eat with you. What do you think?"

Maryanne sighed and slowly raised her right hand from her thigh. Then, she picked up the fork on the table and began to eat again.

Hobart smiled with satisfaction.

While Maryanne was too sad to eat, Milton was drowning himself in liquor with complete disregard of Sierra's worry.

Sierra knew Milton was drinking in his room because he had taken almost all the wine from the wine cabinet with him before he went upstairs.

He had been shutting himself in his room for three or four hours at this point. Fearing that he would get harm his health, Sierra went upstairs and knocked on his door.

After a few knocks, Sierra heard a vague murmur from the room, "I... uh! I... I'm fine. Don't... Don't worry..."

"You're so drunk. How is that fine?" Sierra mumbled with a scowl. After that, she went downstairs and called Amelia.

Fortunately, the call was picked up this time.

Sierra asked without any pleasantries, "Amelia, do you know what happened to Milton? He visited you today. But when he came back, he looked like a completely different person. I'm so worried about him!"
