Come To Me (Amelia and Patrick) novel Chapter 1617

When Maryanne finished, she looked at Hobart with teary eyes. The pain on his face was greater than hers. Other than that, there was also intense anger, which frightened Maryanne a little.

Maryanne licked her lips at a loss. Before Hobart could express his thoughts, she said, "Hobart! All of this happened because of me. Don't get mad at anyone, and don't even think about revenge."

She had witnessed the wrath of Patrick, so she would never throw Hobart into the firepit!

Hobart's eyes trembled when he looked at Maryanne's hand. He asked in a deep voice, "Maryanne, why are you willing to tell me all of this only now?"

He knew his sister. Maryanne had been spoiled since she was a child. And whenever she encountered any trouble, she would come to Hobart immediately, especially when she was bullied.

Therefore, Hobart could not understand why Maryanne had concealed all of this from him and silently endured the pain until this moment.

"Because..." Maryanne sobbed softly. "I like Milton. I don't want to leave him, and I don't want you to cross Patrick! They can do anything for Amelia. I don't want you to get hurt."

"You silly girl!" Hobart could not help but wrap his arm around Maryanne's neck and pressed her face against his chest. "You should've told me from the beginning that you had pushed Amelia down the stairs, so I would've brought you to apologize immediately. Patrick wouldn't have tortured you like this then."

Maryanne laid in Hobart's arms and said with fear, "Hobart, I wasn't sensible back then. Fortunately, this matter did not involve you, Daddy, and Mommy. Otherwise, I won't know how to atone for my sins."

Hobart's expression turned sombre. "Enough. You've paid the price! From now on, stay by my side. I won't let anyone do anything to you anymore!"

Maryanne's felt like crying when she heard him. "Hobart, promise me! Don't take revenge on Milton and Patrick. Let's put an end to this matter for Milton and me."

Hobart lowered his head and could not help but question, "Maryanne, tell me, do you still like him?"

Maryanne frowned with sorrow. "I don't think I'll be in love with another person for the rest of my life."

Hobart replied with disappointment, "You know that all of this is fake, so why did you still get caught up in it? What did I teach you? Why are you..."

Maryanne cried harder when she saw that Hobart wanted to swear at her but could not bear to do it. "Hobart, you're the best person in this world!"

"What are you crying for? Stop crying!" Hobart raised his hand to wipe her tears but did not realize that his eyes were also reddening.

"Hobart, I admire you sometimes. You've always been the type of person who never falls in love easily even though you're surrounded by so many pretty ladies. I've never seen you get caught up in your feelings..." Maryanne looked at Hobart and smiled foolishly.

Hobart brushed her nose and said, "Do you want to learn it from me? I'll teach you!"

However, Maryanne shook her head. "During this period in England, I felt like a boat that had found a harbour. Compared to cruising around, I prefer this feeling of stability."

Hobart pulled a long face. "You're so thick! Other than your parents and siblings, everyone else is a heartbreaker. If you don't mess them around, they'll mess with you. I thought you understood this!" Hobart lectured as he glanced at Maryanne's hands.

"Hobart, you're being too extreme," Maryanne repeated to prevent Hobart from finding Milton and Patrick in a fit of hot- headedness. "I told you. This is my fault. There's no one else I can blame."

"Stupid girl!" Hobart scolded again, but he did not say anything else this time.

After a short pause of silence, Hobart asked with anxiety, "By the way, your hands..."

Maryanne replied frankly, "I've received treatment, but the doctor said that the wound was too deep. They may be scarred for the rest of my life."

Hobart expressed, "No. I'll find you the best doctor!"

Maryanne responded, "Milton had already found for me."

Hobart spat angrily, "It was fortunate that he didn't poison your wound with his vicious intentions. You expect him to find you a good doctor? That diagnosis must have come from a quack!"

"Hobart, after I was rescued, I was immediately sent to the best hospital in Northville. After that, I went to the UK with him and received another treatment there. But I got the same answer from different doctors, so I've come to terms with it."

Hobart's chest felt stuffy as he listened to Maryanne. "He must have colluded with the doctors to lie to you! Maryanne, why are you so naive? Why are you still speaking up for him after what he's done to you!"

"Hobart..." Maryanne replied weakly, "Forget it. If you don't believe me, you can find the best doctor you can think of to treat me. To tell you the truth, I would rather for Milton to have colluded with the doctors and lied to me."

Hobart felt unease. If Milton did lie to Maryanne, it would prove that her hands still could recover. But what if Milton did not do that? Would Maryanne spend the rest of her life with these atrocious scars?

"Oh right..." Hobart could not help but ask when he thought of the tears welling up in Maryanne's eyes when he first entered the room, "What exactly did Amelia come here for? Did she provoke you?"

Maryanne had a complex expression on her face. "She was here to lobby for Milton."

Hobart exclaimed in ire, "How dare she defend Milton? Are you not miserable enough for her?"

Then, he asked, "Maryanne, did she participate in all of this?"

"She asked for it." Sawyer seemed to be explaining or jeering.

In a daze, Amelia asked, "What did you say? Did Jessica look for you herself?"

"Yes. My subordinate saved her from the woods. I then learned that she was attacked by a beast, and one of her legs is injured. She also hit her head on a stone. She's unconscious right now."

As Sawyer spoke, Amelia's heart sank deeper. Amelia had told Jessica to discuss with her before going to Sawyer for revenge!

"Miss Amelia Ramsay, do you want to come over personally, or should I send her to your place?" Sawyer asked.

Amelia came to her senses and replied, "Please send her to Land of Fragrance."

Finally, she said with panic, "Sawyer, you said Jessica was injured, so can you let the doctor on the island treat her wound first? I..."

Before she could finish, Sawyer interrupted, "And why should I do that?"

Amelia gritted her teeth.

"She was carrying a knife and a pack of poor quality knockout powder. I don't think it was just a simple sightseeing trip to my island, was it?" Sawyer questioned in a drawled out but ominous tone.

Amelia's heart thudded.

Sawyer then said thoughtfully, "No wonder you behaved strangely when I went to your company to see you. So, you're good friends with this woman. I assume you already know about the past between me and her?"

"Yes. But I've only found out about it recently," Amelia answered, feeling perturbed.

Sawyer had a faint smile on his face. "I didn't expect our ill-fated relationship to run so deep."

Amelia thought of something and replied, "Sawyer Quartley, when you left Apex previously, didn't you say you would do me a favour? Now, I ask for you to find a doctor to treat Jessica, okay?"

Sawyer's voice was low when he responded, "Are you sure you want to waste the privilege I've given to you?"

"Yes. I beg you." Jessica was in Sawyer's hands, so Amelia had to swallow her fury.
