Come To Me (Amelia and Patrick) novel Chapter 1616

Knock, knock, knock.

Hobart brought Amelia to Maryanne's room and said to Maryanne, who stood at the window with her back facing them, "Maryanne, she's here."

Maryanne turned from the window to look at Amelia. She said to Hobart, "Hobart, can you give us a minute alone?"

Hobart replied worriedly, "Call me when you need me then."

"Okay." Maryanne nodded obediently.

Hobart turned and shot Amelia a warning look before he left.

Amelia stood in front of the door and stared at Maryanne with calm composure. "Can I come in?" Maryanne hummed affirmation without showing any emotion.

So, Amelia entered Maryanne's room.

Maryanne asked, "Are you here to parade? Or are you here to cry crocodile's tears?"

But Amelia only stared at Maryanne's hands and responded, "Maryanne, take off your gloves. Let me look at your hands."

Maryanne was shocked, but she asked back with sorrow, "You found out about it?"

"Hmm. Milton and Mr. Hopper told me everything.

I want to know how were your hands injured."

"Do you?" Maryanne flew into a rage. She took off her gloves in front of Amelia and revealed all of her scars to Amelia. "Don't you feel thrilled to see me like this?"

Amelia observed Maryanne's hands, and her expression darkened. Amelia sighed, "You've been injured so badly, and you're able to endure the pain even now. Maryanne, I'm impressed."

Amelia's words instantly cracked Maryanne's facade of feigned toughness. Maryanne choked a little before asking, "Amelia, do you think that... I... deserve to... suffer this much?"

Amelia sounded like she was relaying a piece of her own experience when she replied, "You just provoked someone you shouldn't have."

Maryanne then realized that she had asked a stupid question. "That's right. I must have been crazy to provoke you. You're the woman that they hold closest to their hearts. It's a pity that I understand this truth too late..."

"It's not too late." Amelia said firmly, "I think Milton had feelings for you." "He likes me? No...!" Maryanne's expression froze.

She got up from her chair and walked to Amelia's side. Then, Maryanne yelled enunciatively, "You're the one who he has feelings for!"

"You're not him, so how can you be so sure?"

"Do you know that Milton and I had only reached an agreement of being a fake couple at the beginning? He likes you, and I have an eye out for Patrick. But because of the pressure from our families, we pretended to be a couple to satisfy with them.

In the beginning, we resented each other, so there was no worry about falling in love with each other. But later on, I got too into the play, so I pushed you down the stairs out of jealousy. In truth, the moment you fell down the stairs, I lost all of my confidence. Because if you were hurt or had died, Milton and I would never have a future together. As a result...

I don't know if God was helping me or trying to screw me over. Unexpectedly, Patrick saved you. Ha. While you survived, I'm in purgatory. My hands are ruined, and so am I!

But for some reason, I can't bring myself to hate Milton. On the contrary, I feel extremely sympathetic to him. He has forced himself to live with the woman he hated and tried his best to avoid skin contact with me. He compromised for you, but you've never had a place for him in your

heart."

Amelia's heart ached as she heard Maryanne's words. She said," You can't force feelings."

Maryanne flashed a self- deprecating smile. "You're right. Since you know that, then you should know that I can't force Milton to give up on his feelings. He paid close attention to your well-being when he was abroad, and he always felt anxious when you got into trouble."

"When your company needed an advertisement plan, he immediately arranged all his free time to make the proposition for you. When your family background was exposed, he packed his luggage and flew back on the first flight. If I hadn't gotten to the bottom of this, he would've hidden all of this from me too."

Amelia choked on the revelation and only spoke after a pause, "I think he's concealing from you because he's afraid that you'll overthink."

The smile on Maryanne's face deepened. "Your statement is exactly the same as his."

"Maryanne, I don't know anything about their plan. If I had known, I wouldn't have let them do that."

"And precisely because you don't know, I can't blame my vengeful feelings on you..." Maryanne stuttered as she closed her eyes and a tear rolled down her cheek.

"Regardless, I think Milton has feelings for you. When he went home yesterday, he locked himself in his room and drank himself drunk. I also heard from Aunt Sierra that he was crying. You don't need me to tell you who he was crying for, right?"

Maryanne's tearful eyes widened in a second as she asked in disbelief, "What did you say? Milton cried?"

Hobart's expression changed drastically. Then, he left Amelia behind without hesitation and dashed toward Maryanne's room.

Amelia looked at his retreating back with a smile. Patrick once told her that Hobart treated his sister like a gem. So, Hobart lived up to his reputation,

after all.

"Maryanne!" Hobart yelled as he rushed into Maryanne's room. She was in a daze, and there seemed to be tears welling up in her eyes.

He was startled and asked right away, "Did Amelia bully you? Didn't I tell you to call me whenever you need me..."

"Hobart." Maryanne snapped back to reality. "She didn't bully me. It's me who wronged her."

Then, Hobart's furious expression froze. What was he looking at? When did his sister's hands become this way!

Noticing Hobart's awed gaze, Maryanne's heart skipped a beat. But in the end, she decided to continue bravely, "All right, Hobart. You've seen them, so I don't have to tell you."

"M... Maryanne... What the h*ll is going on?!"

Hobart still could not believe his eyes. How could Maryanne's beautiful and flawless hands turn into this?

Was this reality? How could such a thing happen to his sister? This had to be a lie! He must be seeing things!

Hobart shut his eyes in an attempt to deceive himself, but when he opened them again, everything was still the same as before, which urged him into a mental breakdown.

Taking in Hobart's reaction, Maryanne said apologetically, "Hobart, did I scare you? If you think they're hideous, I can put on my gloves again."

Hobart took a few deep breaths before he took a step forward. He then carefully held Maryanne's wrist and lifted her hand.

He gently rubbed the scar on the back of her hand with his finger and made sure that it was real. Hobart asked with his heart wrenching, "Maryanne, what have you been going through during the time you left me?"

"Hobart, listen to me..."

Maryanne pursed her dry lips and told Hobart the whole story. Then, she told him about the lesson Patrick and Milton had given her.
