Come To Me (Amelia and Patrick) novel Chapter 1656

"Hello." Across the fence in the garden, Amelia said, "I don't remember having an appointment with you."

"Does that mean I can't come without having an appointment with her? She's so unapproachable. She forgot that she invited me into her house for a chat when we first met," Rebecca thought to herself.

Rebecca would not take Amelia's refusal for an answer. In other words, Rebecca had to go into the house.

"Amelia, I came with blessings and sincerity. I hope you won't shut me out."

Blessings? Sincerity? Amelia looked at Rebecca's amiable face, and she almost mistakenly assumed that Rebecca was here to acknowledge Amelia as her relative.

However, it was irrefutable that the Simmons family had been ignorant to Amelia for so many years regardless if she was Petty's 'daughter' or Patrick's wife.

Thus, that was also the reason Amelia could not get herself enthusiastic towards the Simmons family. She felt that their actions would all become futile attempts in the end.

Whether it was for Petty or Amelia as an orphan, all had become irredeemable under Derrick's incitement. So, everything the Simmons family were doing to make up for their mistakes was going to go in vain.

Rebecca blinked, and she looked quite pitiful. "Amelia, since I'm elder to you, can you invite me into your house? My legs are getting sore."

At that, Amelia silently glanced at the car behind Rebecca as if indicating for her to sit in the car.

At Amelia's reaction, Rebecca turned her face away and said to the driver, who looked like a Christmas tree that was hanging with a lot of gifts, "Okay, give me the gifts. Pull the car to the parking lot."

"Yes, madam," replied the driver as he handed the gifts to Rebecca.

When Rebecca turned back to Amelia, she appeared even more exhausted. "Amelia, look. Not only are my legs sore now, but my hands are hurting too."

All of a sudden, Amelia felt that Rebecca was a handful to deal with.

During the stalemate, Rebecca kept holding onto the bags of gifts instead of putting them on the ground.

After this went on for a while, Amelia finally raised her hand and unlocked the fence between them. Amelia said, "If you're here to bribe me so that I'll allow you to visit my father, you can go back now."

When Rebecca saw how Amelia's actions and words were contradictory, Rebecca smiled even more broader. "Amelia, I bought a Burberry necktie for your husband. I believe he'll like it a lot."

The indirect way to please someone was to target the person's beloved. From the moment Amelia guarded against the Simmons family for George, Rebecca felt that Amelia was a person who put her loved ones before herself. In that case, it was necessary to fawn Patrick to get on her good side.

Amelia narrowed her eyes. "You don't have to go to such expense. He can buy whatever he wants."

After a pause, she turned to Rebecca and said, "Please come in."

In the house.

Wayne, who had been sitting in the living room in unease, was relieved when he saw the woman behind Amelia.

"This is...?" Rebecca was also looking back at him.

After Amelia introduced them to each other, Wayne greeted, "Amelia, I'll go to the washroom

first."

"Okay." Amelia nodded.

Before he left, Wayne secretly glanced at Rebecca. Noting Amelia's distant attitude towards Rebecca earlier, Wayne decided to stay to protect Amelia before Patrick came back.

After Wayne left, Amelia asked Rebecca to have a seat and asked, "Can you tell me why you're here?"

Amelia did not waste time beating around the bush. Rebecca had brought so many gifts, and did Amelia not intend to open any of them? It did not seem to be the reaction for a lady of her age.

However, when Rebecca remembered that there was nothing Patrick Hopper could not do or buy, she understood.

Rebecca put the gifts on the other side of the sofa and replied, "Then, I'll straight get to the point. After heard about your marriage with Mr. Patrick, I feel sincerely happy for you. You're Petty's daughter. So, since you're about to marry, I think it's only mandatory for the Simmons family to give you a blessing. Can I...ask you for an invitation to the wedding? Only if you're willing to."

Amelia looked into Rebecca's expectant eyes, then said without any expression on her face, "What if I say no?"

After a pause, Rebecca responded, "Then I'll try my best to convince you." "You should probably hear me out before convincing me," Amelia said.

Rebecca nodded. "I'm all ears."

"Ever since I found out that the cause of my mother's death was related to Mr. Simmons, I realized the Simmons family's attitude seemed to have changed drastically. Not only were your family not in a hurry to retrieve the shares, but you lot even went to the hospital to visit my father. And now, you show up at my house with a car full of presents. From the looks of it, others might think that our families are close. What are your thoughts on that?"

Under Rebecca's embarrassed expression, Amelia continued, "I know about everything your family did, but one thing continues to puzzle me. Are you guys really repenting for your mistakes, or do you guys just want to gain salvation from me? Because after you find out about the real cause of my mother's death, the Simmons family began to treat me very well, the point being the shares, gifts, and request to attend my wedding. However, these are exactly what I don't need."

Wayne smiled, but he said sharply, "Amelia, it's the first time that I've seen you so serious. I can tell that you resent her a lot."

"She's my mother's aunt, so even if I'm reluctant to see her, it's not ideal to shut her out straightforwardly." Amelia then held her forehead and said with some frustration, "In fact, I didn't intend to say those hurtful words. I hope they never show up in my sight."

Wayne heard her frustration and seemed to be thinking about something.

At eight o'clock, at night.

Having eaten and drunk to his satisfaction, Patrick patted the sofa beside him and said to Amelia, "Amy, come here."

Amelia walked over and was about to sit next to Patrick. But unexpectedly, he reached out and held her wrist. With a tug, she sat on his lap.

After she put her arms around his neck to keep her balance, Amelia cast her eyes over him and asked him what was he trying to do with a look.

"I heard that the Simmons family came to our house today to harass you?"

Wayne's face immediately came to Amelia's mind.

Wayne was the only one who saw Rebecca, so he must have told Patrick about it.

However, was he not terrified of Patrick? And he told Patrick what he saw at Land of Fragrance!

After a moment of pondering, Amelia replied, "It's Derrick's younger sister. She wants to attend our wedding."

"You refused her request."

"Yes, I refused."

"But that doesn't make you happy?"

The reason Patrick had come to this conclusion was not only because of Wayne's report on the phone. It was also because of the shadow in Amelia's eyes when she chased the Simmons family away previously at the hospital.

As Amelia stared into Patrick's eyes, she asked, "Mr. Hopper, what are you trying to say?" "What I mean to say is..." He then gently played with the long lock of hair on her shoulder. "If it hurts you to resent them, why don't you try to forget about them?"
