While the group in the car was inquiring about Amelia's well-being, Owen was the only one who did not get in the car. Because of his responsibility, he could not follow Amelia around like her family. He had to deal with the three groups of special enforcement, Sawyer and Sissi.
So, he first sent the enforcement that Gramps Hopper dispatched out of the airport then returned to evacuate Patrick's subordinates. Finally, he said to his underlings, "This trip has been hard for everyone, but it's not the time to rest. We have to bring Sawyer back to the station before we can complete this mission."
As he spoke, Owen turned to look at Sawyer and Sissi. He then said to his subordinates, "Since Sissi is suspected of participating in the kidnapping, I've decided to bring her back to the station for interrogation as well."
"Yes, sir!" The officers obliged.
At this moment, Sawyer, which had rested on the plane, did not seem to be flustered nor dispirited. Neglecting the handcuffs in his hands, he would appear as a successful man busy with business trips.
But such a charming man like him was handcuffed.
Not only him, but so was Sissi.
She was handcuffed too. Not only that, Sissi's 'elegant, pretty, and charismatic' face was haggard, pale, and pitiful at this moment.
What devastated Sissi the most was that no matter what she said to Sawyer, he did not give a reply. In fact, he did not even bother to give her a sidelong glance. So, Sissi could not help but wonder if it was over between them.
"Take them away," Owen instructed. After that, he led the group out of the airport. However, he did not leave right away. He went to Lincoln to inform his family, then got into the police car that came to pick them up and deaded to the police station.
Nora watched her husband leave with reluctance before she retracted her head from the window. Then, she announced to everyone in a gentle tone, "Let's go."
At the hospital.
Amelia did not expect that she would be escorted to the hospital by so many people. On top of that, it was all because of a fever.
However, in the eyes of Patrick and the rest, her fever was equivalent to a grave illness.
They even sent Amelia to the Emergency Department. If Mr. Hopper had not told the dean of this hospital on the phone beforehand, the doctors and nurses in the Emergency Department would have chased them out.
When the doctor took Amelia's temperature, several nurses could not help but peep at her out of curiosity. The look in their eyes displeased Patrick and drove them out.
The nurses, who were driven away by Patrick's fierceness, then left in a line like ducklings.
Then, they stopped outside the door. Since the door was soundproof, and the people inside could not hear them, they gathered unscrupulously and whispered to each other.
"Is that the woman who stabbed Patrick with a scalpel at the wedding? Her name is... Amelia Ramsay?"
"Yes! It must be her! I remembered her face with just one look! When they held the wedding, I was so envious that I cried. I thought their love story was just like an idol drama! But I didn't expect that something so horrible would happen. I was so scared that the tissue in my hand fell off!"
"Rumor has it that she's crazy. I was dubious before. But seeing her in the hospital, I suddenly buy it."
"It's a pity that such a pretty lady is a lunatic."
"That's right! Wait! Did you see her belly..."
"Yes. She's pregnant."
"If she's crazy, then her child can also be..."
Right then, a loud bang sounded, and the nurses who were chatting jumped.
When they saw that Patrick had come out while slamming the door with a ferocious look, the nurses immediately put on a guilty expression.
Under Patrick's silent gaze, the youngest nurse among the nurses that remained silent suddenly puckered her lips and cried.
"I... I'm sorry..." The nurse cried in fear and begged, "I didn't mean to badmouth about your wife. Please don't make my superior fire me, okay?"
Her words made the rest of the nurses break out in a cold sweat.
Before Patrick could say anything, they had begun to apologize. In the end, they even said they would write ten thousand lines of selfreflection on their actions.
After listening to them, Patrick responded indifferently, "Did you know that in serious cases, malicious slander can be sentenced to imprisonment less than three years, be detained, controlled, or deprivation of political rights?"
At that, the nurses shook violently. They knew that it was not a big deal to lose their job, but getting sentenced to jail was a grave matter.
"Mr. Patrick, can you please let us in and apologize to Miss Amelia Ramsay?"
Since pleading with Patrick was useless, they could only go at it another way. If the party involved was willing to forgive them, surely, Patrick would not hold them back.
"Then..." The nurses saw a glimmer of hope in each other's eyes. "Patrick was trying to scare us! He didn't hear our conversation at all?"
"Then what is he suing us for?"
"Right?"
Just when they thought they had escaped, one of the nurses continued, "Wait! He didn't hear us badmouthing his wife, but we confessed everything after getting startled him and told him everything!"
They fell silent instantly.
Amelia settled into an independent spacious ward. She spoke to her family, "Gramps, granny, Dad, Aunt Alice, Nora, and Florence, you've been traveling with me for so long. You guys must be tired, right? Why don't you go home and rest early? Mr. Hopper can take care of me here."
"Amelia, I'm not tired at all. I'll stay here to accompany you."
At that, Nora and Florence also nodded, which indicated that they wanted to stay here too.
Gramps Hopper added as well, "There's no rush."
Granny Hopper then asked amiably, "Amelia, what do you want to eat? Granny will ask the chef at home to cook and send it to you."
Amelia licked her parched lips and responded obediently, "Granny, I want to have porridge."
"Okay, I'll call right away. Wait for me." After Granny Hopper replied, she took her phone, put it in front of her eyes, and fiddled with it.
Nora noticed Amelia's small gesture of pursing her lips, so she immediately went to wash a cup and fetch her some water.
Florence then asked, "Amelia, what fruits do you want to eat? I'll go buy them for you."
Amelia knew that everyone had good intentions, so she did not refuse them. "I want to have some pears. Can you get them for me?"
"Of course. Easy peasy," Florence answered, "Give me half an hour. I'll get them to you immediately."
As Florence spoke, she slipped away like a gust of wind.
