Come To Me (Amelia and Patrick) novel Chapter 1714

"Happy?" Gramps Hopper questioned, "Sawyer is in the police station. Do you think there is still happiness in the Home of Quartley? Instead, your appearance will bring them new hope."

Amelia was stunned before saying, "Gramps, I'm not all of that. I can't bring anything to the Home of Quartley, and the Home of Quartley doesn't need me to bring forth anything either. I have no money and no talents, so I can’t let the Home of Quartley live a better life than now. On the contrary, I'll only bring trouble, so..."

Gramps Hopper did not like her self-denial. "Who said that you're not rich and talented? On the contrary, you're the most capable and responsible woman I have ever seen. As for the fortune, if the Home of Quartley recognizes you because of your wealth, I won't let them go through with it!"

Amelia was amused and moved at the same time. "Gramps, I know you're afraid that I'll get looked down on if I don't have a proper reputation. But it doesn't matter. I don't care. Just like what Florence said, having you guys with me is enough."

Gramps Hopper scowled and wanted to say something more.

But Amelia continued, "Gramps, I've been through many hardships. I don't think it's exaggerated to say that I've gone through enough for the rest of my life. Now, I've comprehended a truth about life, which is that true happiness comes from being able to stay with the people I love peacefully. The rest means nothing to me."

Gramps Hopper then sighed. In the end, he did not insist anymore.

To be honest, Gramps Hopper doted on Amelia from the bottom of his heart. At the thought that she, with her young age, was always someone's target because of some occasional misunderstanding, he could not help but want to fix her reputation.

Unfortunately, Amelia was unwilling to accept his suggestion, so he had to respect her decision.

"Okay, gramps." Patrick said firmly, "Amy needs some rest now. I'll send you guys off to the hospital entrance. Leave the rest to me here!"

Granny Hopper and the others were still reluctant to leave. However, when they saw the tired look on Amelia's face after the antipyretics, they knew that the medicine was taking effect. So, they left one by one, saying, "We'll see you tomorrow."

Only Alice had made it clear to Patrick that she wanted to stay here and take care of Amelia.

Patrick had no choice but to nod. After Patrick informed Amelia, he left the ward with Granny Hopper and the rest.

When only Amelia and Alice were left in the ward, Amelia asked with concern, "Aunt Alice, if you stay here to take care of me, what about Dad?"

Alice smiled softly and replied, "Don't worry. Your father has a doctor and nurse to take care of him. It's fine if I'm not there for a day. The most important thing for me now is to take good care of you and bring you to your father in good health. I believe he'll be elated to see you."

When it came to this, Amelia could not help but ask, "Aunt Alice, Dad was unwilling to do rehabilitation because of me?"

Alice's voice sank. "Yes, what happened between you and Patrick at the wedding impacted him tremendously."

Amelia then followed up in anxiety, "Didn't you tell him that the woman who assassinated Mr. Hopper wasn't me?"

"I did. But it was worse because it meant that you could be killed, or you might not be able to come back every again."

Amelia fell silent for a while before she said, "Aunt Alice, do you have the doctor's number? I want Dad to listen to my voice and tell him that I'm safe."

"Yes! Yes! Why didn't I think of that? I'm so dumb!"

Alice muttered with shame as she took out her phone from her leather purse. After she dialled George's attending doctor number, she handed the phone to Amelia.

Amelia immediately pushed the call button and beeps sounded.

After a while, the call was picked up.

After the doctor understood Amelia's intention, the doctor was willing to help her and asked about her current 'illness'.

"My illness?" Amelia paused for a moment then asked suspiciously, "Are all of you talking about me that way?"

At this, the attending doctor immediately realized that he had said something wrong and laughed it off.

Amelia could not help but feel helpless. She had no intention of picking faults with the doctor.

Not long after, she heard the attending doctor say that he had come to George's side.

Not long after the attending doctor finished speaking, a heavy breath sounded in Amelia's ears.

Probably because the attending doctor had told George about her, George was so excited that he let out a sound. It sounded like a mute person had given his all to make this sound.

Amelia's eyes glossed over. She covered her mouth with her hand and yelled, "Dad!"

George's breathing became heavier. The attending doctor was frightened and advised repeatedly, "Mr. Ramsay, please don't be agitated. Calm down..."

Amelia was afraid that his dad's blood pressure would soar and something bad might happen. So, she immediately tried to persuade him, "Dad, calm down. Settle down and listen to me."

George calmed down gradually. Amelia then went on, "Dad, I'm very lucky. After Mr. Hopper learned of my whereabouts, he brought men over to save me. I wasn't tormented during the three months out of Northville. My child is also healthy too. It's just that it's currently inconvenient for me to visit you now, so I'll accompany you to do rehabilitation in two days, okay?"

George tried his best and to utter a hum as he heard this. Clearly, he agreed.

"Aunt Alice, I'm not mad. I only asked you that because I want to be prepared. I would be mad if you hadn't told me anything."

After hesitating for a while, Alice finally went on, "There are, indeed, some rumours flying around. Some say that you're crazy, some say that you're taking revenge because Patrick abandoned you once, which was why you did that at the wedding."

Amelia expressed without any emotion, "It seems that my previous guess was right."

Alice hurriedly comforted, "Amelia, what others think is their own business. Don't let your mood be ruined because of this."

Amelia then assured with a faint smile, "I know. I already know what to do. If they slander me in front of me, I don't mind going 'crazy' in front of them once in a while."

"Amelia, what do you plan to do?"

"If a woman scolds me, I'll scratch their faces. If a man yells at me, I'll kick them in their crotch. Anyway, I'm a lunatic, aren't I?"

As they were talking, Patrick pushed the door open and entered.

When he saw that Amelia still sitting up on the bed, he asked, "Amy, why aren't you resting?"

When Amelia saw him, she immediately smiled and replied, "I was waiting for you to come back."

After that, she shot Alice a look to indicate the end of their topic, then slowly slipped into the quilt and picked up a corner of the quilt to tuck herself in. Then, she said to Patrick obediently, "I'm going to rest now. When Milton comes, remember to wake me up."

"Milton is coming?" Patrick was taken aback.

"Yes, Amelia just called two of her good friends over. They both said that they're coming to visit her," Alice replied.

"Won't you get tired out?" Patrick had always put his beloved wife's health before anything else.

"No, I'll be fine after a nap." After that, Amelia closed her eyes and fell asleep in no time.

When they saw this, Patrick and Alice felt distressed. She was too tired to hold on, but she still forced herself to entertain her friends.

Half an hour later.

A figure rushed to the ward in a hurry. After taking deep breaths and adjusting his ruffled hair, he reached out and knocked on the door.
