Patrick smiled charmingly and said, "What? Do you think I'll like you less just because you're out of shape?"
"Yes." Amelia then discussed seriously with him, "You have such a good figure. You have pecs, abs, a V line, and a pair of long legs. If I'm fat, how can I keep pace with you?"
A hint of a smile flashed in Patrick's eyes. "I didn't know that Mrs. Hopper would worry she wouldn't be good enough for me someday."
As Amelia saw the tease from his eyes, she could not help but get a little mad. "I'm telling the truth. Can you please not gloat?"
At that, Patrick could not help laughing, a faint joy blooming in his heart. He had always been afraid of losing his charm to Amelia, so he did not expect her to worry about keeping up with him and that she was not good enough for him.
With this thought in mind, Patrick could feel his heart melting. Amelia was so beautiful, and he should be the one that was not good enough for her.
"Amy, you haven't even gained weight yet. Even if you do, I won't like you any lesser. Do you know why?"
"Why?"
"Because I think women are the most beautiful when they're pregnant, and you're now in this moment."
He could have gained full marks for his sweet talk!
Amelia was in a daze. If she thought about it carefully, she would find that Patrick did not answer her question about getting fatter.
Since Amelia was still having a fever, Patrick did not give her a real bath. After he scrubbed her with a towel that was wet with warm water, he quickly change her into a hospital gown and carefully buttoned it up. But even so, Amelia's face still flushed.
"Done." Patrick raised his head. His handsome face was slightly stiffened from suppressing his urge. There was also a thin sheen of sweat on his forehead.
Amelia did not notice it because she was busy lifting her feet from the hot tub. Before her foot even touched the ground, Patrick knelt on one knee and held her leg.
Amelia was startled. "Mr. Hopper?"
When their eyes met, Patrick's eyes darkened. “I'll dry them for you. Then, you can wear shoes later."
In the next second, he put another towel on her leg and gently dried them before putting her foot back to the slippers.
Then, he did the same to another foot.
When he finished drying her feet and was about to look up at Amelia, she suddenly lowered her head and kissed him on his forehead.
Patrick's eyes widened with surprise and immediately became proactive. Right away, he lifted his gaze in search of her lips.
Amelia whimpered. Her body, which was weak because of the fever and the steam from the bath, would not move at all.
A long moment passed.
'Amy, we haven't kissed for three months. How do you feel?"
Amelia remained silent.
"Don't just blush, Amy. Say something."
Knock, knock, knock.
In the next moment, a faint knock sounded on the door. Patrick assumed that it should be one of the servants delivering him clothes, so he stood up and opened the door.
As a result, the one who delivered the clothes was Owen. "I'm worried about Amelia, so when I heard that they're sending you some clothes, I came. Here you go."
After Patrick received the bag, he replied softly, "Owen, Amy has just fallen asleep. Let's keep our voice low."
"I know. I'll take a look at her and leave," Owen replied before he passed by Patrick and walked towards the hospital bed.
After a while, Owen gestured at Patrick. Then, they two left the ward one after the other and stopped at the door.
Patrick had an idea of what Owen was going to tell him. So, without waiting for Owen to speak, Patrick asked, "Owen, what's happening with Sawyer Quartley?"
"He's being monitored." After a pause, Owen added, "But I never expected him to be so shameless. He claimed that he took Amelia away because he was afraid she would suffer after marrying you. He even said that we were shameless and that we had planned to abduct his sister. He wanted to sue us in return."
"Let him sue then!" Patrick replied expressionlessly. "Does he think Amy will be on his side and accuse us?"
Owen brushed his nose and continued, "The key is that he wants to make this kidnapping case a family dispute. You know, in America, it's hard for the courts to settle family issues."
Patrick's eyes gleamed coldly. "So what?
He only confirmed her identity after he kidnapped Amy. Besides, if he can prove that Amy is his sister, why can't we prove that Amy isn't?"
