Yale could only swallow the matter for now. Pushing too hard wouldn’t help.

Alright then, Ms. Lloyd, just be careful. Mr. Hunt’s really suspicious of us right now. He might even start doubting you when he gets back.

It’s fine. I’ve got a way to ease his doubts.

Hearing that, Yale finally felt some relief. At least one of them had Tyler’s trust. If both drew suspicion, it

would be over.

Rachel suddenly said softly, Enough, I can’t talk anymore. Sounds like Tyler’s back.

Yale hung up right away.

Rachel deleted the call log, then lay down and pretended to be asleep.

Minutes later, the door creaked open.

The scent of cedar and cigarettes drifted over.

Rachel, pretending to sleep again?

Tyler’s chin brushed the crown of her head. His palm covered her cold hand, fingertips grazing her skin with slow precision.

Rachel’s brows twitched. What was with this man? How could he always see straight through her? Even her pretending to be asleep couldn’t fool him. She was sure she hadn’t slipped.

She decided to just keep it up. He could be testing her, and she couldn’t afford to crack.

Tyler, seeing her perfectly still, pulled her into his arms. Rachel felt the warmth of his breath against her

ears.

His tie hung loose, brushing against her skin and tickling her. His hand wandered and stoked sparks wherever it touched, until Rachel’s breathing grew unsteady.

This was getting dangerous.

She rolled over, unable to keep up the act. The moment her eyes opened, they locked with Tyler’s cold gaze. Yet in the dim light, they glowed with a faint amber.

Why are you back so late?

It took her ages to force out even those few words.

Tyler chuckled. So, you admit you were faking sleep, waiting for me to return?

Since she couldn’t avoid it, Rachel simply admitted it. I just got up to use the bathroom. Who knew you’d walk in right after I lay down?

Oh? Well, are you still sleepy? If not, keep me company for a drink.

Rachel saw the hungry look in his eyes. If she refused, he’d probably find some other way to pass the time. Once Tyler started, there’d be no rest until morning.

She planned to get him drunk quickly so he’d fall asleep. That way, she could avoid further trouble.

Alright.

They sat out on the balcony. The night breeze brushed against them. Tyler brought out two glasses and even a spread of barbecue.

Rachel’s eyes lit up. “Where’d you get this?

Stopped by that old barbecue stand you used to love on the way back.
