Countdown to My Divorce (Rachel and William) novel Chapter 740

Chapter 740

“Shut up!” Anne shouted.

Seeing Anne break down seemed to put the man’s mind at ease. He laughed with satisfaction.

“See that? He doesn’t like you! Didn’t I just tell you? Now you see it for yourself.”

Anne stayed silent. Her whole body was stiff like a statue.

Just then, a woman’s voice rang out at the elevator entrance.

“Andrew Warhol, what are you doing? Are you out of your mind? Let her go!”

Rachel finally realized the man’s name was Andrew Warhol. Without a doubt, the newcomer was the girlfriend

he claimed to love to death.

The moment Andrew heard her voice, alarm bells went off in his head. His whole demeanor changed instantly.

His pupils dilated, and his voice softened. “Claire…”

Claire Nelson looked at him, fear mixed with disappointment in her eyes. “Let her go. Do you realize this is a crime? You’re going to ruin yourself.”

Andrew shook his head and frowned like he was on the verge of tears. “I don’t want to break up. I’m begging you, don’t leave me.”

Claire said softly, “Fine, I won’t break up with you. Just let her go, and we’ll talk it out.”

Andrew latched onto her words like a drowning man grabbing a life raft. “Really? You’re not leaving me? We can still be together.”

“Yes, yes. Now let her go,” Claire urged.

Andrew’s grip on Anne loosened, and finally he let her go. Anne stumbled forward, wanting to run to Tyler. However, her legs had long since gone weak with fear. She could barely move.

Suddenly, Claire turned to the police. “Officers, I’ve already convinced him to let the hostage go. That means this has nothing to do with me anymore, right?”

One of them reassured her, “Don’t worry, you won’t be held responsible.”

The moment Andrew heard that, his expression changed. Rage flashed in his react, he snatched the knife and lunged toward Anne.

Tyler bolted toward Anne at once.

Anne had no idea she was still in danger. She thought Tyler had chosen her, running straight toward her. A smile appeared on her face.

“Tyler!”

But the knife was already swinging down. At the last second, Tyler pulled Anne into his arms and turned his back to Andrew to shield her.

Rachel, who stood nearby, grabbed a police officer’s gun, chambered a round, and fired at Andrew’s arm.

The deafening gunshot echoed through the hall.

Andrew howled in pain, the knife clattering to the floor as police officers rushed forward and pinned him down.

Even as handcuffs snapped onto his wrists, Andrew turned to Claire and shouted bitterly, “You liar! You never wanted to get back together with me. It was all a trick, just to buy time and dump all the blame on me! You’ve

been fooling me from the very start!”

Now that he was restrained, Claire finally had the courage to speak her mind.

“Andrew, I’ll admit you treated me well when we first started dating. But now, you’ve changed completely. Your need to control me is so suffocating, I feel like you could strangle me any day. Even if it kills me, I refuse to be with someone like you ever again!”

Andrew thrashed against the officers, roaring as they dragged him away.

“I won’t let you go!”

Tyler, still holding Anne, had assumed the police fired the shot. But when he glanced up, he realized the gun was in Rachel’s hands. His eyes narrowed instinctively.

Rachel looked just as stunned as anyone. Her body was stiff, and her mind went blank while she stared back at Tyler.
