Hearing Rachel’s words, Tyler felt as if a weight had suddenly been lifted from his chest. He finally nodded.
“Yeah. Get some sleep. Rest well tonight. We’ll need the energy to work tomorrow.”
Rachel raised her hand and playfully thumped his chest again. “What are you even saying?”
The two of them fell asleep in each other’s arms, and for the first time, Tyler slept soundly without needing a story, a song, or medication.
The next morning, Tyler was jolted awake by the shrill ringing of his phone. He opened his eyes groggily, not even seeing who was calling before answering in a deep voice.
“What is it?”
“Mr. Hunt, you need to get to the office right away! There’s trouble! Your aunt is standing on our company’s balcony. She’s threatening to jump! Every media outlet in Yurelia City is already here. If this ends with someone dying, it’s going to be a disaster.”
Tyler shot fully awake, and his eyes snapped open.
“Got it.”
He hung up, jumped out of bed, and threw on his jacket in a rush.
Rachel stirred at the noise and opened her eyes. She asked in a sleepy voice, “What happened?”
“Nothing. Go back to sleep. I just need to stop by the office.”
By the time he finished speaking, Tyler was already dressed, pulling open the bedroom door and heading out.
Though Rachel hadn’t known Tyler for long, she understood his temperament well enough. Something serious had to have happened for him to be this frantic.
She had heard the panic in his voice just now. Tyler, who was always calm, composed, and collected no matter what, sounded shaken.
It would take something truly monumental to shake him like that.
Rachel hurried after him to LS Enterprise. She hadn’t even stepped inside yet when she saw the massive crowd gathered outside the building. Everyone’s gaze was fixed upward.
Following their line of sight, Rachel looked up. At first, she could only make out a faint silhouette–but when she recognized who it was, her pupils contracted sharply.
It was Wilma.
She had actually come to the company to cause a scene. She was even threatening suicide!
Had this woman lost her mind?
A thought struck Rachel, and she immediately dialed Jerry’s number.
