“Shouldn’t you be by Cecilia’s side at the hospital?”
William didn’t expect to bump into Rachel during his meeting here. He sat at the table next to Rachel and heard every word of their conversation.
He was confident of Rachel’s abilities at work. No matter how challenging the circumstances, she always had her way of securing the deal she wanted to clinch.
Since their divorce, Rachel had always been cold toward William.
This man had betrayed her once, and it impacted her greatly, be it physically, mentally, or even her dreams about marriage.
Even though so much time had passed, she refused to reconcile with William. She considered herself vengeful and couldn’t find it in herself to ever forgive William.
Rachel ignored him completely. “None of your business.”
With that, she walked past William to leave the restaurant.
However, he grabbed her wrist to stop her from leaving. “You sacrificed yourself for Tyler’s sake and now owe the overseas headquarters two hundred million dollars. Why didn’t you tell him about it?”
Rachel frowned as her face fell. “You heard it all?”
William didn’t deny it. “Yes, I heard it all. Rachel, why are you exactly the same as you were before? Giving your all for a man… Do you really think you can handle something so major all by yourself?”
Rachel flung William’s hand away, her voice icy.
“This has nothing to do with you! I don’t think it’s wrong to give my all for someone. The only problem is that I gave my all to someone undeserving. I think Tyler is a million times better than you are. Let me put it this way- even if Tyler ended up with nothing, I’m willing to stay by his side. You, on the other hand, I wouldn’t spare a glance even if you had all the riches in this world.”
Rachel’s words pierced through William’s heart like a blade.
His face turned dark, and his lips trembled. A moment later, he finally squeezed out the words from his throat.
“Rachel, there’s no need for you to treat me like this.”
Rachel glanced coldly at him. “How do you want me to treat you? Do you think we can be friends or even ex- lovers on amicable terms?”
William knew there was no point in talking further to Rachel, given her current state.
“Fine, we don’t need to talk about that if you don’t want to. Two hundred million dollars isn’t a small sum. How are you going to settle that?”
“I’ll deal with my own problems. You don’t need to bother yourself with them.”
