Tyler agreeing to this didn’t mean he was fine with Rachel working outside. It was about respecting her. He knew her too well. If he tried to stop her, she’d only push back harder.
The more he tried to control her, the more she would resist.
Rachel had her own mind. She wasn’t someone who just went along with things. Otherwise, she never would have achieved so much in her career.
She was free–spirited, not someone he could tie down. She needed space, or she’d fight tooth and nail to break free.
Hearing him say that, Rachel’s eyes lit up. “So you’re saying I can go out and handle the project talks?”
“Something like that.” Tyler nodded.
Rachel was so happy, she didn’t even think twice. She leaned in and planted a quick kiss on his cheek.
“Tyler, you’re the best!”
His skin felt warm where her lips had touched, but the sensation faded just as quickly.
He chuckled. “If I could get that every day, I wouldn’t complain.”
It only hit Rachel then that she had just kissed Tyler in public.
Whatever–it was already done, and it’s not like he lost out.
After lunch, Tyler still had work to handle. If it hadn’t been for Rachel showing up for the meeting today, he probably would’ve grabbed a quick bite and gotten back to the office.
Now, he had sat through a proper meal and had to drive her back. It was time he hadn’t planned on spending.
Rachel figured she didn’t really have much else to do, anyway, and asked, “Can you drop me off at the hospital where Cecilia’s at?”
“Right now?”
“Yeah. It’s just past one. I can sit with her for a while.”
She’d already spent some time at the hospital, and she knew how lonely Cecilia would feel during the day when her children were in school.
Tyler thought it over. Having Rachel there to keep Cecilia company wasn’t a bad idea.
“Alright, I’ll take you.”
“It’s fine. You should get back to work. I can drive.”
Rachel knew how much he had on his plate. He’d been checking his watch constantly over lunch, one of his habits he probably didn’t even notice.

But Tyler wasn’t budging.
“No way. Not when you’re in your first trimester. The doctor was clear. You need to be extra careful right now.”
Rachel had no choice but to give in. With the way he was, he wasn’t going to let it slide otherwise.
