Susanna was gone.
Yvonne was convinced Dan had spirited her away, and she was so furious she left the island in the middle of the night.
Before she left, she ordered everyone to comb through the whole place, just in case Dan had dumped Susanna’s body somewhere nearby.
But there was nothing. Not a single trace.
On the way out, Chloe managed to track Susanna’s location—she was already back at Black Gate.
Yvonne didn't think too hard about it. As far as she was concerned, Dan must’ve sent someone to do something unspeakable to Susanna.
On the plane, Yvonne sat there, looking absolutely conflicted. “Does he really have those sorts of people working for him? You know—the really nasty, shameless type?”
Given the scene they’d walked in on earlier, it was obvious something terrible had happened.
Chloe considered for a moment, then answered simply, “Plenty.”
Yvonne gaped. “Excuse me?”
Chloe rattled off a list of names—most of them infamous, the kind of people who were the stuff of neighborhood horror stories, even known for kidnapping girls.
Yvonne just shut down at that point.
Well, it made sense. Black Gate had only been tolerable when the previous woman in charge was running things. Since she left, the place had turned into the stuff of nightmares, all thanks to the scumbags Dan kept around.
Yvonne gritted her teeth. “That bastard. She’s his own sister, for God’s sake!”
All the official reports said Dan was Susanna’s younger brother, but Yvonne didn’t buy it—he looked way older. Susanna was so young, barely more than a kid.
“What’s in it for him, anyway?” Yvonne’s anger just kept simmering.
Chloe pondered again, then said, “If I had to guess, he’s probably planning to pin the whole thing on you.”
Yvonne’s jaw dropped.
Are you freaking kidding me?
Yvonne snapped, “He’d really try to screw me over again?”
Just hearing this made her see red. Dan had already made her life hell more times than she could count. If he set her up for this—
As for Hull? That idea never even crossed their minds. Not once did they suspect he was involved.
When Yvonne finished working herself up about how to make things right with Lacey, she finally thought of Hull.
“What about Hull? What do we do about him?”
For a woman to get Hull to the bargaining table, Susanna had to mean a hell of a lot to him.
Thinking about Hull, Chloe remembered how relentlessly he’d been chasing them lately.
She gave Yvonne a worried look. “Should we have Mr. Quinn deal with Mr. Miguel instead?”
No way was Yvonne up for handling this herself. That was just asking for disaster.
Yvonne’s eyes went wide.
Send her brother instead?
Just the thought of Ronald flying into a rage made her break out in a cold sweat, but she couldn’t deny Chloe had a point.
