Tyler's face turned cold. He was friends with this guy, but they wrote about the same topics, making them rivals. Sharing a beer and some pizza was one thing, but when it came to pride, neither wanted to back down.
His eyes drifted to Athena, and suddenly, he felt a wave of irritation.
"Athena, if you don't apologize, then you can really just walk back."
He knew she was bluffing when she pretended to leave earlier. But now, he was serious about letting her go.
Athena stood up, avoiding everyone's gaze.
"Fine, I'll go."
With that, she turned on her heel.
Sitting on the couch, Athena heard Bert's teasing voice.
"Looks like she's got some guts, huh? Aren't you worried she might actually break up with you?"
Tyler felt embarrassed by the jab, growing even more annoyed.
"Break up? We were never together, so there's nothing to break up. Maybe I've been too lenient with her lately."
His eyes lingered on Elsa's ankle, noticing the swelling.
"Let's just get a doctor to check on her."
Elsa tried to act all gracious.
"It's nothing. She's had this attitude since high school, which is why I said no one likes her."
Tyler extinguished his cigarette, feeling more agitated. It was just past 1 a.m., the darkest part of the night. Athena only had her phone on her. She wouldn't really try to walk all the way down the mountain, would she? Surely, she'd find a spot near the lodge to rest until morning.
Tyler forced himself not to think about her as he headed upstairs.
Bert felt unjustly accused, rubbing his temples.
"I'm just saying, this is all fun and games until someone gets hurt. If something happens to her, it'll be a big problem."
Tyler felt uneasy. Part of him didn't want to care about Athena, while another part resented Bert's concern for her. But he still grabbed his jacket and jumped into his car.
Bert found it amusing. Deep down, Tyler did care, even if he wouldn't admit it.
Tyler drove for half an hour, but Athena was nowhere in sight.
He pulled out his phone and tried calling her, but it went straight to voicemail. Panic set in—what if something had happened to her?
Athena had been using her phone as a flashlight, but now it was dead, plunging her into darkness. Yet, she wasn't afraid. After Kerwin passed away, she'd lost her fear of everything. She had wanted to join him, but Kerwin had asked her to keep living.
What was the point of living like this, though? She felt like a zombie, just going through the motions. She didn't dare die, worried that Kerwin would be upset with her if she did.

The readers' comments on the novel: Dear Ex-wife Marry Me novel (Maja)
Author, would you story about Ryan settling down and another story on Eric regaining his body and memories back from Patrick, and Eric also settling down as I find it so disheartening for him to have gone through what he went through at the research institute, and I'll like for him to get his "golden boy" life back though, not at the detriment of Ian....
When will the author update to finish Beck's story? What about Dylan and Tyler's love lives? Also, I'll like the author to write on Wilma and Elvis ending up together as she was quite persistent in pursuing him. And Shawn's story, Cornelia Sullivan and Omar Casson. Also, a little write-up on Jeff (Ian's assistant) love life, too. Thanks, author for updating....
When will get update?...
