She had actually thought about asking Teresa to call Jonathan. Jonathan was so rich and powerful. With Teresa being pregnant, he’d surely help her. But Teresa was firm. She didn’t want to ask Jonathan for help.

Miriam said, “Alright, I’ll head to Shaville and see how things go first. If there’s any update, I’ll let you know right away.”

Teresa nodded in agreement. After Miriam left, Teresa took a deep breath. She was still worried. There were so many employees depending on her, waiting for their paychecks. The company couldn’t go under.

She scrolled through her phone, staring at that familiar number. She thought, ‘Do I have to call him? Maybe I’ll only embarrass myself. He’s obviously still on his mother’s side, isn’t he?

‘There’s no way it’s just some random coincidence that the company suddenly got sabotaged like this.‘

Then she looked away and hurried out the door.

In Jarisburg, Jonathan stood by Lucas’s bedside, watching his eyelids flutter. As soon as he got the call from the hospital, he took the first flight over.

Jonathan thought, ‘She told me to leave last night. Fine, I left. Isn’t that what she wanted?‘ He kept pulling out his phone and checking it every now and then. ‘She’s so ruthless. She hasn’t called me even once.‘

“J–Jonathan…“A weak voice snapped Jonathan out of his thoughts.

Jonathan put his phone away and looked down at Lucas, who was finally waking up. He could hardly believe it. “You’re finally awake.”

Lucas looked around. His eyes were unfocused, and his voice was quite weak. “Am … in heaven?”

Jonathan said with a helpless smile, “Sorry for pulling you back from heaven. You took sleeping pills and passed out for a long time.”

Lucas was momentarily stunned. Then he remembered swallowing the sleeping pills before getting on the plane, and the paternity test results Jonathan had handed him. Tears started to well up.

He stared at Jonathan and said, “I remember now. My real mother… is Ms. Davis, right?”

Jonathan nodded. “That’s right. Teresa’s mom is your real mother. Back then, Peggy switched you with her own child. She did it out of revenge, making you endure years of abuse. But you can rest easy now. She’s already been arrested for what she did.”

Hearing this, Lucas fell silent and lifted a hand to cover his eyes. Tears streamed down his face.

He was crying for the second chance at life he’d been given, for all the undeserved suffering he’d endured over the years, for his pitiful, broken dreams, and for the woman who had switched his life and made him suffer for almost thirty years.

Jonathan turned his gaze away. No guy wanted another man to see him cry.

After a long while, Lucas finally managed to pull himself together. With raw sincerity, he spoke up, “Jonathan, thank you. Really.”

Lucas wanted to get out of bed to thank Jonathan face–to–face, but Jonathan waved him off. “Don’t bother. Just focus on getting better. Let me go get the doctor to give you another check–up.”
