The security guard let the car in. A black Mercedes–Benz G–Class drove into the yard. When the man got out of the car, Teresa realized it was Gary and finally breathed a sigh of relief.

Gary rushed over to Teresa, panting. “Teresa, I saw the news about Jonathan. He called me in a hurry and told me that if he can’t make it back for now, I should escort you and Mike to Jarisburg ahead of time.”

Teresa shook her head. “How am I supposed to leave in a situation like this? It’s not just Jonathan; Jennifer’s in trouble too.”

“What?” Gary asked, looking confused. “What happened to Jennifer? Wasn’t she traveling outside?”

Teresa sighed. “She came back a while ago. Irene is suing her for faking the DNA test results between Mike and Jonathan. Irene has completely exposed everything now.”

Teresa couldn’t figure out why Irene would suddenly go after Jennifer like this. ‘Something must have happened between the two of them, Teresa thought.

Gary’s face darkened. “I just can’t with Irene. What the hell is she trying to do?”

Teresa said helplessly, “If I actually knew what she was up to, I wouldn’t be stuck here like this.”

Gary sighed, “Teresa, don’t move around. I’m heading to the police station to check on Jennifer. You and Mike stay inside; don’t go out. I just came from your company, and there are many reporters gathered there. Please don’t leave the house.”

Teresa’s brows knitted together in worry. ‘If there are reporters all over my company, what about Miriam? Is she okay?‘ Teresa couldn’t help but worry. As if on cue, just as Gary left, Miriam called Teresa.

Miriam had also seen the news about Jonathan being suspected of illegal insider trading, but there was nothing she could do about it from Friyx. She was there on business for Teresouth Group, and Edward was just tagging along on his vacation.

Teresa breathed a sigh of relief. “It’s actually a good thing you two aren’t here. Don’t come back just yet. It’s a really messy situation right now, and I don’t want you guys getting dragged into it.”

Miriam sighed, “I’m not worried about getting dragged into it. I’m worried about you. You’re all alone right now.”

In fact, Miriam knew that Teresa and Jonathan’s remarriage was just for show. Even Jennifer could see through it, and so could Miriam. If Teresa had really remarried, she definitely wouldn’t be acting like this now.

Miriam and Jennifer were the two women who had been by Teresa’s side the longest. But now, neither of them was with Teresa.

Meanwhile, over at the police station, Gary burst in, scanning the room anxiously. Spotting Irene giving her statement, he pointed at her and yelled, “Let her go. Now!”

Irene shot him a glare. “What are you doing here? I don’t have the power to let anyone go.”

Gary’s temper snapped. He grabbed Irene with his arm and barked, “Oh yeah? Then maybe you should be the one behind bars.” Irene’s face went pale. She had completely forgotten that Gary knew about that incident.

Gary pressed on. “Need me to jog your memory about what you did to my mom?”

Irene yanked her arm free, her patience gone. “Your mom was the homewrecker. She ruined things between me and Yorick first.”

Gary shot back. “And what about your own dirty laundry? Why did my mom give you 3 million and run from Nareigh to Shaville and never dare come back? I don’t mind telling Grandpa, the whole family, or everyone in Nareigh.”

Irene shoved Gary away, her voice cracking as she lost control. “Go ahead, tell them. It’s been years. There’s no proof, no witnesses. Even if you do, you’ll go down with me. Have you even thought about what’ll happen to Jonathan’s company?”

Gary suddenly fell silent. Irene could see just how much Gary respected Jonathan, and she was hitting him right where it hurt on purpose.

Just then. Benny walked out from the direction of the interrogation room. Gary hurried over. “What’s going on now? Is Jennifer really going to be locked up?”

Benny frowned, shaking his head. “It’s hard to tell right now. Let’s wait until Jonathan gets out and sees. For now, she has to stay in custody.”

Gary spun around, glaring at Irene. “Now that Jonathan is not here, what are you trying to do to Teresa and Jennifer? Teresa already remarried Jonathan, and now you’re suing Jennifer? The two families are going to be completely done with each other after this.”

Irene snapped back, “Why are you yelling at me? Jennifer faked the DNA test, and that’s why Jonathan and Mike never got to know each other. That’s the truth. If you care about her so much, why don’t you go to jail for her?”

Gary was speechless. “I just feel sorry for her. Don’t you have a shred of empathy? She’s lost her job, her marriage. Teresa at least gave Jonathan a child, and this is how you treat them? Are you out of your mind?”

Just as Gary was fuming, someone suddenly tugged at his sleeve. Without even looking back, he snapped, “Who is it? Don’t touch me!” The next second, a child’s cries rang out.

Gary spun around and finally saw that the one tugging at his sleeve was actually Michael. Everyone else in the room was stunned into silence.

Michael rubbed his eyes, tears streaming down his chubby cheeks as he looked up and said, “Gary, where’s my dad? I want to bring him home.”

Gary and Benny both crouched down at the same time, staring at this soft, adorable little Michael in disbelief. ‘How did he end up here? Did Teresa come too?‘ they both wondered.

Michael shook his head. “Gary, I was so worried about my dad, so I secretly climbed into your car and followed you here.”

Gary was dumbfounded. “This kid actually snuck out and followed me all the way here?‘

“I didn’t mean to, Gary. But where’s my Mr. Daddy Lime?” Michael sniffled, his big eyes shimmering with tears. His delicate little face was so adorable that it made everyone’s heart ache.
