Dumped My Cheating Ex. Now I'm Sleeping Next to a Billionaire CEO novel Chapter 229

Dean watched as Emmy walked away. Her figure was slim, but her back was straight as ever, like a poplar tree that refused to bend. Somehow, all the frustration that had been building up inside him on the drive over just melted away as he looked at her.

No one knew better than Dean how much Emmy had given up for the Dome. He remembered when he’d just passed his driving test and brought home his very first car. Emmy had shown up, hugging her laptop, her eyes sparkling with excitement as she promised him a surprise.

He remembered the constant tapping of her keys, day and night, and the sound of her laptop finally giving out after being pushed way too hard. She was in the middle of exams, barely had a minute to breathe, and to top it all off, it was pouring rain that day. She’d broken down, sobbing.

Dean had grabbed her broken laptop and raced out into the rain, running from one repair shop to another. But when he finally got it fixed and brought it back, everything on it was gone.

He’d spent ages comforting her. When she finally stopped crying, her eyes still red, she just said it was okay, she’d found new inspiration.

That inspiration became the Dome.

For three whole years, the Dome had hit roadblock after roadblock, and Dean had been there with her through every one. You could say his sweat and tears were mixed into it too.

Sure, he’d trashed the Dome right to Emmy’s face before, but that was just him lashing out in the heat of the moment. Deep down, he never wanted to see it actually get taken down.

Meanwhile, in the control room, Emmy was scrolling through the Skyline System’s source code. Just like she thought, it was another blatant rip-off of her own work.

But all that code, all those files—she’d always kept them stashed away on her laptop and encrypted drives. How had Evelina managed to steal them without anyone noticing?

Emmy suddenly turned, her gaze cutting like ice through the glass wall, straight at Dean. Her eyes were cold, sharp.

Was it him again? After all, no one understood the Dome better than Dean did. Besides, she’d never hidden anything from him—not her work, not her ideas, nothing.

Dean met her stare. The second he saw how cold she looked, all the tension and irritation he’d just managed to calm down flared right back up.

He walked up to the glass, his voice low and tight. “What’s going on?”

Emmy looked away, ignoring him. She picked up her phone and checked the time.
