Emmy was barely holding it together.
The second she stepped into her office, she dropped the mask she wore for everyone else. She practically fell into her leather chair, every muscle going limp.
Her lower back was killing her. Damn. That man was relentless—more like some wild animal than an actual human being.
Technically, Emmy didn’t even have an official position at Starlight Corporation. But after she got her shares back, she’d been given her own boardroom office up on the top floor, not far from the CEO’s suite.
She glanced up at the bodyguard by the door. “Go tell Mr. Carter to come see me. Right now.”
Juan had been blowing up her phone, acting like it was some kind of emergency. But honestly, she couldn’t even imagine standing up again, not after last night.
Less than a minute later, someone knocked.
Juan walked in, dressed in a perfectly tailored gray suit. He looked sharp and serious—every inch the high-powered executive.
Emmy barely flicked her eyes open to look at him. She didn’t bother with the usual polite greetings.
Leaning back, she asked, “So what was so important you had to drag me back here?”
Juan’s gaze swept over her, then zeroed in on the fading red marks along her neck—marks not even the best concealer could hide.
His eyebrows shot up, and his voice came out tight with disbelief. “So it really was you in Mr. Nelson’s suite last night?”
He stepped closer, looking like he couldn’t believe it. “He didn’t throw you in Shadow Core? He actually… slept with you?”
The lazy look in Emmy’s eyes vanished, replaced by a cold, sharp glare.
“If you called me here just to gossip, you can leave now.” She didn’t even look at him as she shouted, “Get Mr. Lincoln in here instead!”
