Cooper stormed into the office, his face thunderous.
All he had left now was twelve percent of Starlight Corporation. After his last public apology for Evelina, he’d already had to give up three percent, just to calm things down and convince Emmy to drop her lawsuit. Every time he thought about it, it felt like salt in a fresh wound.
He marched straight to the desk and slapped two sets of documents down.
“I signed them.”
Emmy glanced down. Divorce papers.
She picked one up, flipping through it. At last, Cooper’s signature was there at the end. So he was actually keeping his word this time. She’d helped him wreck Claudia and her mother’s plans, and in return, he’d finally signed.
But something was off.
Emmy paused, frowning. These definitely weren’t the same documents she’d sent. As she paged through them, she grabbed a pen and started crossing out the tampered property clauses, rewriting each one by hand.
If she had one strength, it was her memory. She’d drafted these agreements with her lawyer, and she remembered every word. She wanted Cooper out with nothing to his name. Yet he still dared to try and get a piece of her mother’s trust fund and property.
“Emmy!” Cooper’s voice was sharp, his face turning an even darker shade as he watched her edit. “What do you think you’re doing?”
Emmy didn’t even look up, her pen gliding smoothly across the paper. “A man who cheats and hides money from his own wife doesn’t get to keep anything.”
“You—!” Cooper snapped and lunged across the desk, reaching for the papers.
Emmy didn’t so much as blink. Her voice cut through the tension, cold and unyielding. “Security.”
Two guards in black appeared instantly, each grabbing one of Cooper’s arms and pinning him back.
Cooper shook with anger, his once-dignified face now splotchy red. He glared at her, his voice raw. “Emmy! Do you have to be this heartless? I’m still your father!”
Emmy finally let out a cold laugh. “And weren’t you even worse first?”
