Dumped My Cheating Ex. Now I'm Sleeping Next to a Billionaire CEO novel Chapter 269

The cold, intimidating aura that always seemed to cling to James just vanished, like a winter storm swept away by a sudden breeze of spring. For a second—could it really be?—there was even a hint of a smile tugging at his lips.

Everyone in the room just stared, dumbfounded.

The conference room was now so quiet, it made his earlier outburst feel almost lively by comparison. If James had been a ticking time bomb made of ice before, now he was more like a rare blossom blooming right on top of a melting glacier.

It was unreal.

He sat down, his long fingers tapping the table twice. Even his voice had softened, suddenly warm and calm.

“Let’s continue.”

That snapped everyone out of their trance. People exchanged glances—half relieved, half itching for gossip. The power of romance was no joke. Mrs. Nelson had basically saved them all.

Meanwhile, in another part of the building…

More than half an hour ticked by.

Suddenly, there was a sharp knock at the lounge door.

Emmy jolted awake, only just realizing she’d fallen asleep with her head on the table.

A respectful voice called through the door. “Ms. Lincoln, Mr. Lincoln is here again.”

Emmy rubbed her eyes, not even bothering to check her phone—she figured James must’ve hung up ages ago. She tossed her phone into her bag, then wandered into the bathroom at her own pace. She splashed her face with cold water and took her time fixing her lipstick in the mirror.

No rush. She wasn’t the one who needed to hurry.

By the time she stepped out, Danny was already waiting, two agreements in his hands.

“Ms. Lincoln, these are the agreements. Mr. Lincoln looked them over and… he’s refusing to sign.”

Emmy’s eyes landed on Cooper, who was trying his best to look like a heartbroken, disappointed father.

“Emmy, your mother and I have been married for so many years. You can’t just cut things off like this.”

Emmy let out a cold laugh. “So you’re breaking your promise again? Why am I not surprised? It’s not the first time.”

But Cooper just replied, “I’ve asked your uncle to bring your mother home from the hospital.”

He looked at her, wearing a smug, fake smile. “You’re still our daughter, Emmy. Even if your mother wants a divorce, that’s between us. It’s none of your business.”
