Her back was pressed tight against the window, the dizzying city skyline and river stretching out beneath her, so beautiful it almost didn’t feel real.

James’s kisses were wild, moving from her lips down to her chin and then to the long line of her neck, leaving a trail of heat wherever he went. He kissed her like he couldn’t get enough, drinking in her every breath like a starving man.

“Let’s go to the bedroom.” He suddenly stopped, his forehead resting against hers, his voice low and rough with longing.

Emmy clung to him, her voice soft and shaky. “No, don’t… Someone might be here…”

James frowned but shut her up with another hungry kiss. One hand held her steady while the other slipped under her shirt, bold and sure, like he knew exactly what he was doing.

His kisses brought tears to her eyes, and that familiar fire started to build inside her. She finally managed to tilt her head up, breathless and giving in. “Okay… let’s go to the bedroom…”

But right then, James’s phone started ringing in his pocket, killing the mood in an instant.

Emmy held him tighter. “Answer it. What if it’s something important?”

James looked irritated, but he kept one arm around her as he pulled out his phone. Emmy glanced at the screen without even thinking.

The caller ID just said “Number Three.”

She frowned. Why did James save someone’s name as a number?

Suddenly, he let go of her. Her legs were wobbly, and he had to steady her so she wouldn’t fall.

“I’ll take this call. I’ll be right back.”

His voice was still thick with desire, every word raspy and low. He turned, pulled back the curtain, and stepped out.

Emmy leaned against the cool glass, breathing hard, her cheeks still burning. She turned her head and the sweeping river view outside caught her eye, wide and sparkling in the sun.

She could just barely hear James’s voice from somewhere nearby. “I’ll be there soon.”

A moment later, the velvet curtain swished open and James was back, walking straight over to her. He took her wrist and fastened a delicate glass-bead bracelet around it.
