“It’s that priest from the church!” The old lady’s voice was full of certainty. “He’s a true master. You can’t doubt a single word he says!”
She sighed deeply, her regret almost tangible.
She’d been waiting for so long. Back when Emmy had a boyfriend, she hadn’t felt right about stepping in. She waited and waited, and the moment Emmy was finally single, someone else swooped in and snatched her away.
All that waiting, and in the end, some random guy got lucky. What a waste.
She still remembered how she’d quietly gone to see Master Wu Chen again, asking if a blessed girl like Emmy could really become part of the Nelson family.
He’d only said, “A blessed girl will find her way to a blessed family.”
Then he handed her an address and told her, no matter what, to make sure her grandson was there at exactly 10:50 PM on May 18, 2026.
So that night, she dragged James away from the family dinner at the old house and sent him off to the bar at that address.
Later, she heard there’d been a fire at the bar that night.
After that, her memory just got worse. She’d keep forgetting the whole thing. But every time she saw Emmy, everything about that night would come rushing back.
She really did like this girl. If Emmy could marry into the Nelson family, their family legacy would finally feel rock solid.
But now? It was such a pity. Really, what a pity.
James, who’d been leaning against the door, frowned before finally straightening up and stepping into the room.
“Grandma, you shouldn’t take everything that priest says so seriously. If he was really right about everything, I’d either have no kids at all or a dozen running around by now. Sounds like nonsense to me.”
Tyler, sitting in his wheelchair, suddenly laughed. His warm eyes sparkled with mischief as he teased, “No kids? I don’t see that happening. But honestly, I wouldn’t mind if you had a bunch. At least then there’d be more people to split our inheritance, and I wouldn’t have to worry about it all myself.”
James let out a short laugh, but his gaze flickered to Emmy—just for a second, before he looked away.
