Jules and Krystina were both married now, and the kids dashing around the yard were theirs.
Thinking about it, Emmy realized Nico was the only one she really knew well here. The two of them had been in the same coding club as kids, so they went way back.
She couldn’t help but wonder—if she’d agreed to be Dr. Pepper’s apprentice back then, she wouldn’t be the youngest now. At least, by the rules of seniority, Krystina and even Ellory, who was off living abroad, would have to call her “senior sister” with respect.
Nico spotted her and jumped up, his voice echoing over the patio.
“Hey, little sis! You finally made it, we’ve all been waiting on you!”
His gaze shifted past Emmy to Will, who was trailing behind her with his arms full of gift bags. Nico’s eyes lit up instantly.
“Oh, is this your husband? He looks sharp! You two together—total power couple vibes!”
Will, whose face was already tanned from all those hours on the training field, went beet red in a second. He started shaking his head, flustered, about to protest.
Emmy cut in calmly, “Nico, this is Will. He works with my husband.”
She turned slightly to explain to everyone, “My husband’s running late, had some things to take care of. Will just brought over a few gifts for Dr. Pepper on his behalf.”
Will hurried over to hand the gifts to the housekeeper who’d come out, his cheeks burning. He barely dared glance at anyone, just mumbled to Emmy, “I’ll get going now!”
He didn’t wait for a response—he was already halfway out the yard, running like his shoes were on fire.
Laughter broke out in the gazebo, and the more Will heard them, the faster he ran, disappearing around the corner in no time.
Nico laughed louder than anyone. “That guy’s got zero chill. I’ve never seen anyone blush so hard.”
Dominic’s eyes lingered on the gifts the housekeeper set down on the stone table. You could see a flicker of satisfaction even if he tried to hide it. There was his favorite Da Hong Pao tea, a purple clay teapot he’d been wanting forever, and even a VIP health checkup voucher from Mercy Hospital.
