Chapter 412
The sun shone brightly in the afternoon sky after a fresh snowfall.
Joyce was in an especially good mood, just thinking about how Kayla had finally been “taken care of” “With Kayla out of the picture, things are finally looking up for me, Joyce thought, feeling a surge of satisfaction:
She knew she’d messed up before, and that was why the Prescott family couldn’t stand her. I really need to fix my reputation this time,‘ she reminded herself.
So, before making her next move, Joyce decided she had to reinvent herself.
She changed her hairstyle, picked out new clothes–giving herself a complete makeover from head to toe.
Finally, she splurged on some pricey health supplements. ‘I’ll start with Magnolia. She’s the softest and the most gullible, Joyce thought to herself.
‘Once I win her over, getting close to Tuff will be a walk in the park,’ she added.
“Joyce!” The voice was dripping with menace, making Joyce instinctively flinch.
She instinctively flinched.
She turned around, and her happiness froze solid.
‘Kayla? She’s alive?‘ Joyce thought, her heart plummeting.
Joyce scanned Kayla from head to toe, wishing she had X–ray vision to see what was really going on.
“What, shocked I’m not dead?” Kayla said coldly, advancing on her step by step.
CHA
Joyce felt the urge to bolt, but then thought, ‘If I run now, it’ll look like I’m trying to escape because I’m guilty.
‘It’s a crowded mall. What could Kayla really do to me here?‘ she wondered.
“Mrs. Prescott, why did you say that? Don’t you think that’s a little unlucky?” Joyce replied, forcing a calm smile as she shot back.
“Normally, you just call me by my name,” Kayla said coldly.
In a flash, Kayla was standing right in front of Joyce.
There was barely 150 feet between them.
They were about the same height, but the air felt heavy with Kayla’s presence. Joyce could practically feel the pressure closing in. ‘She hasn’t even done anything yet! What is this, some kind of supernatural intimidation?” Joyce thought, a shiver running down her spine.
Joyce swallowed hard, trying to put on a brave face.

But it was pointless. She was totally outmatched whenever Kayla was around.
‘Ugh, why do I always lose my nerve around Kayla?‘ Joyce thought, frustrated.

“Mrs. Prescott, isn’t that your favorite title?” Joyce forced a smile. “Relax, I’m done chasing after Tuff. I’m not going to fight you for him.”
“Fight?” Kayla shot back, her tone icy.
She hadn’t even finished speaking when Joyce suddenly screamed.
Everyone in the upscale mall turned to look at the commotion.
Security showed up in no time.
“Hey, no fighting here, ladies. If you have something to say, talk it out,” one of the guards said, trying to calm things down.
“We’re not causing any trouble,” Kayla said, still holding Joyce’s wrist. She gave the guard a friendly smile. “We’re just playing around.”
Kayla looked totally relaxed, like they were just two besties holding hands.
But Joyce’s face was pale.
The guard glanced at Joyce. “Miss, are you alright?”
“Yeah, I’m fine…” Joyce muttered, her face still pale, sweat pouring down her forehead.
As a doctor, Joyce knew just how much danger her wrist was in.
If she said the wrong thing, Kayla could easily snap her wrist in an instant.
‘Damn it! How can she hurt me right in front of everyone? And her strength–she’s like an ox!‘ Joyce thought, her mind racing.
‘Is she even a woman?‘ Joyce wondered.
“Tuff must be blind,’ she added.
When Joyce said she was fine, the guard left, and the onlookers went back to minding their own business.
Joyce half–slumped, her voice barely above a whisper. “Can you let go of me now?”
“No,” Kayla replied flatly.
“What else do you want?” Joyce demanded, her voice shooting up an octave in frustration.
The guard had barely made it a few steps before he turned back, looking uneasy. “Are you sure you two are really alright?”

“We’re fine!” they replied in unison.

The guard scratched his head, still looking confused, and walked off.
“Where’s the necklace?” Kayla asked.

“It’s… it’s in my bag!” Joyce stammered, her heart skipping a beat. “Thank god I brought it with me, she thought.
She awkwardly rummaged through her bag with one hand, finally fishing out the jade necklace and passing it
over.
Kayla took the necklace but still didn’t release Joyce’s wrist.
“Are you… are you still not letting go?” Joyce muttered, clearly annoyed but too scared to actually protest.
She was trying so hard to hold it in, but the way she looked was so aggrieved and repressed.
“So, how did you meet Dally?” Kayla asked, her tone sharp.
“Dally? Who’s that?” Joyce replied, genuinely baffled.
She looked completely lost, not a clue what Kayla was talking about.
Kayla narrowed her eyes. “Your accomplice from yesterday.”
“Oh, so his name is Dally?” Joyce said, realization dawning. “Honestly, I barely know the guy. He was the one who approached me, not the other way around.”
“And what exactly do you have that would make him seek you out?” Kayla shot back, giving Joyce a once–over full of scorn.

That look–so openly dismissive–made Joyce squirm inside.
“Money. Isn’t it obvious?” Joyce replied, forcing a laugh to cover her discomfort.
She might not be the prettiest or the wealthiest, but to a lot of people, she was still a rich girl worth over ten million.
If she wanted, there would be plenty of men lining up at her feet.
“So it’s all about the money, huh?” Kayla said, her voice dripping with disdain.
Kayla couldn’t help but feel sorry for Dally.
‘Killing just for money? Totally not worth it,’ she thought.
‘Dally, you’ve disgraced the Limitless Sect, Kayla added to herself.
“Where’s Dally?” Joyce asked.

“Gone,” Kayla said coolly.
“He’s Dreiceanian. Went back home,” Kayla replied, her tone icy.
Joyce felt a stab of regret. ‘Why’d Dally have to leave? The guy was so skilled–and such a psycho. If he failed last night, there’d always be a next time. I’d shell out fifty million if it meant getting Kayla out of my way, she thought.
A sickening crack echoed through the air.
Before Joyce could even process what was happening, blinding pain exploded in her wrist and she shrieked in
agony.
Her wrist bone had been snapped.
‘How the hell am I supposed to perform surgery now?‘ Joyce thought, panic flooding her mind.
“Kayla, are you insane? Somebody help!” Joyce screamed, her voice ringing through the mall.
The security guard looked utterly exasperated. This was already his third time coming over.
“Go ahead, call the cops,” Kayla said, her tone cool as she fastened the jade necklace around her neck with effortless grace.
Joyce and the guard were speechless.
‘Seriously, who breaks the law and still acts this calm?‘ they both thought, completely baffled.
