Hiding in the Devil's Bed (by Malea Cox) novel Chapter 417

Chapter 417

Night Owl fell silent, her right hand gripping the belt of her coat so tightly that the veins on the back of her hand bulged.

Dulcie’s words hit her right where she was most vulnerable, Night Owl thought.

Brian looked at her, and for a moment, it was like seeing Kayla all over again. Back then, Kayla had endured all the Kyle family’s accusations and abuse, holding it in until she lost herself.

Facing the Kyle family’s blame and cruelty, all she could do was endureendure until she forgot who she was, Brian thought.

And as for him? Even though he knew she was suffering, there was nothing he could do to help.

A surge of pity welled up in Brian, and he didn’t hesitate to pull Night Owl into the car.

Night Owl! How dare you go with him?Dulcie screamed, her voice hoarse with rage.

Every single word was laced with bitter resentment.

What else do you expect? You’re the ones who drove her out,Brian said, slamming the door before driving off.

The shouting gradually faded into the distance until it disappeared completely.

Night Owl buried her face in her hands, her sobs silent and desperate.

Brian kept quiet, letting her break down as much as she needed.

He kept stealing glances at her in the rearview mirror.

Suddenly, a bittersweet sense of relief washed over him. He wasn’t the only one carrying pain in this world.

Brian drove slowly, not really knowing where he was supposed to take Night Owl.

After what felt like forever, Night Owl finally calmed down. Dr. Shawn, thank you for today.

No need to thank me. I actually came to talk to you about something,” Brian said with a smile, pulling over to the side of the road and handing her a bottle of water.

Night Owl took a few sips before saying, Go ahead.

I heard you were trained by a renowned expert. Can you really use hypnosis to make someone forget?Brian asked.

My teacher can,Night Owl replied.

And you?

Chapter 417

I’m afraid I can’t. I’ve never had anyone ask me to do something like that, Night Owl said, dung her head,

Everything that happened at the Wiggin family today had left her completely exhausted, and the dumped back in her seat, barely able to hold herself up.

Brian felt a bit let down, but he kept his smile. It’s Okay, Sorry for bringing it up?

So, who do you want to forget?Night Owl asked.

Brian stayed silent.

Night Owl didn’t push. My teacher’s pretty old now, not sure if he’d want to get involved again. Besides, 1 haven’t exactly been obedient these past years. He kicked me out ages ago

Do you have his contact info?Brian asked.

Yeah.

Night Owl gave Brian an address.

Aren’t you even curious? What if the person I want to erase memories from is someone you know? Brian asked with a smile.

Night Owl replied weakly, We don’t really know that many people in common.

Yeah, that’s true,Brian said.

My teacher’s got a pretty strange temper. Good luck dealing with him,Night Owl said.

Thanks,Brian replied.

Brian glanced over and asked, You didn’t drive here? Where do you want me to drop you off?

Night Owl told him the name of an extendedstay place, and Brian, out of habit, looked it upminimum lease was three months.

Is she really planning to stay in Srodonville that long?Brian wondered.

We came here before the holidays. I thought time would wash away the hatred, butit hasn’t,Night Owl murmured, closing her eyes and leaning back.

Her quiet, helpless words hung in the air inside the car.

Brian tightened his grip on the steering wheel.

If time can’t wash away hatred, what about forgetting?Brian thought.

If you forget, maybe the hate just disappears too?Brian thought to himself.

It was early spring in Srodonville, and pale yellow blossoms were popping up everywhere, their fresh color bursting with life against the green leaves.

Aaron trailed them from a distance, then called Landon. Mr. Kingsley, Dr. Shawn just showed up in Srodonville,

Him?Landon sounded genuinely shocked.

Brian and Night Owl were hardly close, so

Landon sat behind his desk, thoughtfully drawing his brows together.

Mr. Kingsley, maybe you should just ask Night Owl yourself? Something’s definitely off,Aaron said.

Got it,” Landon replied.

He idly turned a pen between his fingers. How’s Night Owl doing with the Wiggin family?

Same old story. No way to smooth things over. Night Owl’s been pushed to the edge,” Aaron said with a sigh.

Before Landon could blow up, Aaron hurried to say, Mr. Kingsley, you really can’t blame me for this. The Wiggin family just won’t listen to reason. There’s nothing I can do.”

Landon forced down his anger and said quietly, Looks like we’ll have to pay the Wiggin family back with a life.”

Meanwhile, over in Lunova, Edith was about to give birth.

Her labor started in the middle of the night, and Daniel and Maisie rushed with her to the hospital in a panic.

Amelia could only stay home to look after the kids, feeling completely helpless.

But the waiting dragged on and on, and by the time noon rolled around the next day, there was still no good

news.
