Dulcie was the last to come, her gaze complicated as she looked at Night Owl. After a long moment, the struggled to speak, “I…”

Night Owl didn’t wait for her to finish. She simply said, “I’m going to check on Dawson; and walked past Dulcie, no one stopping her this time.

Landon said, “Dulcie, you should go to the hospital and get ready for the surgery, Aaron, plene help take care

of her.”

“Okay,” Dulcie replied softly, clutching her phone tightly.

On her phone was the health checkup report she’d just gotten.

On this heartbreaking day, it hit her like a bolt of lightning

Landon placed the flowers, wine, and other offerings in front of Dawson’s tombstone, then stepped aside.

Night Owl sat quietly by the tombstone.

No words could describe how she felt.

It wasn’t until the sun was about to set and Landon urged her to leave that she finally let out a soft sigh “Dawson, I’m getting married. You can rest in peace.”

It was not just a goodbye, but also a way to reassure him.

Landon thought to himself, ‘Dawson, what do you think of this scheme? Do you like it?

Then he texted Aiden: “Night Owl is going to donate a kidney to Dulcie…

That same day, Dulcie received confirmation of her surgery date.

Dulcie’s parents were worried that Night Owl might suddenly back out and refuse to donate her kidney to Dulcie.

So they spent the night carrying the marriage license, family register, and Dawson’s death certificate, all to help Night Owl process the paperwork to be officially listed as widowed.

They were also afraid Aiden would show up and try to stop Night Owl from donating her kidney, so the Wiggins ended up moving into the guesthouse themselves, just to keep an eye on Night Owl around the clock.

Night Owl felt a dull ache in her chest.

She was determined to donate her kidney to save Dulcie’s life, even if Aiden tried to stop her

But Aiden was a madman. Sure, he might act like a scaredy–cat around her, but that didn’t mean he wouldn’t go ballistic on the Wiggin family.

After thinking it through, Night Owl took the initiative to warn Landon, “Don’t tell him yet…

“Do you mean Aiden?” Landon asked.

“Yeah,” Night Owl said.

Landon smiled.

“Oh, by the way, Brian stopped by to see me. Did Aaron mention it to you?” Night Owl asked.

“Yeah,” Landon replied.

“He doesn’t really seem like a bad guy, but you should still keep your guard up…” Night Owl reminded him.

Night Owl actually fell asleep mid–sentence as she was talking.

Her nerves had been stretched to the limit during her time in Srodonville, especially that day.

When Landon stepped out of her room, he caught the Wiggin couple listening in by the door.

Things got super awkward in a flash.

“Uh, we… we were just…” the Wiggins stammered.

“Before Dawson passed away, he asked me to take care of her and make sure she stayed alive,” Landon said softly.

The Wiggins looked at each other, shame written all over their faces.

Over the years, they hadn’t done a single thing to honor their son’s last wishes. Instead, every time they saw Night Owl, they took out all their anger and resentment on her.

They knew Night Owl would show up on the anniversary of Dawson’s death, so they’d stake out his grave just to stop her from getting close. In short, they’d done everything they could to make her life miserable–short of actually killing her.

“She’s not going to change her mind, so you don’t have to worry,” Landon reassured them.

The Wiggins fell silent.

They’d done so much they regretted, it was hard for them to trust anyone’s good intentions anymore. Only after the kidney donation was over would they finally be able to breathe easy.

Just as dawn was breaking, Amelia was still asleep, Kimsey curled up beside her, when her phone started ringing, dragging her out of sleep.

When she saw it was Aiden calling, her first instinct was to hang up.

“Amy, someone’s looking for you,” Gloria knocked and called out from outside her door.

Another warning? Is it something serious?‘ She hurried to get ready.

When she opened the door, Aiden was standing there, looking like he’d been through hell and back, worry written all over his face. Amelia was startled. “What’s wrong?” she asked.

“I need your advice on something…” Aiden said.

“Just say it!” Amelia snapped.

“Night Owl’s about to donate her kidney to Dulcie. Do you think I should stop her?” Aiden’s eyes were practically red from worry.

Amelia frowned, “Who’s Dulcie?”

“Dawson’s sister,” Aiden answered quickly.

“Oh, I see…” Amelia muttered, a little unsure.

‘Night Owl isn’t in great shape herself–how could she donate a kidney? But Dulcie is Dawson’s sister. Night Owl had always felt she owed Dawson and his family. It’d be hard to stop her, she thought.

“Aiden, what do you think?” Amelia asked, her tone serious.

“Of course I don’t want her to go through with it! Her health is already so fragile, and it took ages just to get her back on her feet… I still dream of starting a family with her,” Aiden mumbled, his voice growing quieter and his face turning awkward.

Afraid Amelia would snap at him, he quickly added, “It’s not that I care she can’t let go of Dawson. I’m honestly just worried about her well–being.”

“Yeah, I understand,” Amelia said softly, trying to reassure him.

She got up, warmed some milk for Aiden, and asked the servants to hurry up with breakfast.

Aiden had driven all night to get here–he looked exhausted, hungry, and anxious.

He wanted to stop Night Owl, but he didn’t have the guts to face her directly. So he turned to Amelia–after all, she was basically the only female friend Night Owl had.

Amelia was really conflicted.

If Night Owl went through with the kidney donation, her chances of ever having kids with Aiden would be slim to none.

Chapter 421

But if she stopped her now, it would mean the end of their relationship, right then and there.

If they couldn’t even stay together, having kids wouldn’t even be on the table.

“Amy, can you say something? I seriously have no idea what to do, Aiden kept checking the time, looking, more anxious by the second.

‘Landon said they’re taking her kidney this afternoon. It’s a two–hour flight to Srodonville, and I’m running out of time.
