Farewell to Love: The CEO's Desperate Chase novel Chapter 2

His eyes were deep-set, his nose sharp, and his lips thin and cold as a blade.

When had he started to change?

Probably from the day Vivienne appeared.

"Are you sure you want a divorce?" Emilia asked one last time.

He didn't answer. His lips pressed into a hard, silent line.

Finally, he parted them just enough to say, "Yes, you—"

"Alright."

She cut him off before he could say anything more, agreeing without hesitation.

He froze, caught off guard.

Narrowing his eyes, he looked her over with a wary, almost suspicious gaze.

"Emilia, you're getting bolder," he said, his voice edged with rare irritation. "You're counting on me needing your consent, trying to use that against me?"

Emilia said nothing. She simply stared at the white wall, at the two shadows cast there—hers and his.

Tyler stubbed out his cigarette, said nothing more, and hurriedly threw on his clothes. Without another glance, he strode toward the door.

He walked out as if he didn't care what this meant for her, as if the shame and humiliation of his demand were nothing to him.

Because he knew she couldn't leave him.

That's how it had always been, all these years.

Bang!

Tyler slammed the door behind him. Emilia was left alone in the bedroom.

She stared quietly at the closed door, the one he'd just walked out of.

For a long while, she sat on the edge of the bed in silence.

Buzz. Buzz.

Her phone vibrated—a new message. She reached for it.

The contact name read: Her Backup Account.

Her Backup Account: [He came to see me again.]

Attached was a photo: Tyler's profile reflecting in the glass of an entryway.

His face wore a gentle smile, his eyes soft in a way Emilia had never seen before.

Should she show him this one?

Emilia tossed her phone aside and reached into the bottom drawer of her nightstand, pulling out a folder.

Inside was a medical report she'd received earlier that day—a positive pregnancy test.

She was carrying Tyler's child.

She was carrying Tyler's child at the worst possible time.

A tear landed on the paper, staining the ink and blurring the words.

But what did it matter, when his heart had already left her? Even proof couldn't change that.

She wiped her tears away.

Emilia took Tyler's lighter from the nightstand and set the document alight.

He didn't know it yet, but agreeing to this divorce was the last thing she'd ever do for him.

Seven years of youth. Seven years of her life.

She'd repaid everything she owed him.

And now, she was done loving him.
