Farewell to Love: The CEO's Desperate Chase novel Chapter 254

It was a sleepless night for many.

The police combed the city, searching relentlessly.

Doctors and nurses battled exhaustion in the brightly lit hospital wards, fighting to save lives through the night.

Vivienne slipped through the shadows, quietly gathering news from the hospital.

Christian Donovan didn’t dare call Emilia directly. Instead, he reached out to Joyce, and even after hearing her updates, anxiety gnawed at him. He paced his living room, back and forth, before finally deciding to distract himself with work—maybe focusing on the company would keep his nerves at bay.

Tyler lay on his sofa, wide awake. He wasn’t sure what was on his mind anymore. Eventually, he wandered outside, stopping beneath the eaves as dawn crept in, watching the sky lighten while a pile of burnt-out cigarette stubs collected by his chair.

Emilia rested in bed, curtains open, gazing at the heavy rain streaking down the window. She lay still, listening to the storm, until finally, as daylight broke, the rain slowed and then stopped.

She glanced at the clock. It was still early, but she no longer wanted to lie there. Might as well pick up Bella and get the day started.

Emilia got up, dressed, washed, gathered what she needed, and drove to the orphanage.

Meanwhile, across town, the Glenn family home was quiet but for the steady drip of rain from the eaves.

In the study, the scent of tea lingered in the air as Theodore Glenn, the family’s eldest son, sat at his desk with pen in hand, focused on elegant calligraphy.

George Glenn had just woken up. Stretching, he wandered downstairs, peeking into the study as he passed.

“You’re up early, Theo,” George said with a yawn, stepping inside to look over his brother’s shoulder.

Theodore didn’t answer immediately. He finished a final flourish, bringing the piece to a close.

“‘All is auspicious, nothing forbidden,’” George read aloud, squinting at the page. “Is that today’s horoscope?”

He wandered around the room like a curious goose, searching for a calendar to check.

Theodore just smiled, setting down his pen. He picked up his tea, settled into a wicker chair, and gazed out at the garden where the rain was finally easing to a stop.

Across the city, the world was waking up. People hurried down slick sidewalks, umbrellas in hand. The rain had ended just in time, but the morning rush hour was still a tangled mess.

Because Emilia had left early, she picked up Bella sooner than usual. The two of them stopped by a little park to play before Emilia dropped her off at preschool.

With time to spare, Emilia drove to city hall.
