She was always steadfast, standing by her friends’ side.
Even when he threw a few jabs her way, it cheered her up more than a little.
After Christian grumbled a few more complaints, Emilia finally got to the real reason she’d called.
“Christian, I need your help with something,” she said.
“Go ahead,” Christian replied at once.
Emilia paused, choosing her words carefully. “Tomorrow, I want you to keep a close eye on the Donovan family. Especially your second brother’s finances.”
“What for?” Christian sounded puzzled. “Wyatt spends money all over the place—investments, hobbies, you name it. He’s never really tried to hide it.”
Emilia considered her plan before answering. “Honestly, I’m not sure yet. It’s just a possibility—something I can’t really discuss in detail over the phone.”
“All right, I’ll keep an eye out. You can trust me to handle it,” Christian responded, sitting up straight. He knew Emilia wasn’t someone who acted on a whim.
Besides…
Christian gave a sly, almost sinister smile. Wyatt had tripped him up more than a few times lately. It was about time he returned the favor.
“Wyatt, you’d better not do anything shady, or else…” He let the threat trail off with a dark chuckle.
After hanging up, Emilia sat for a moment, listing out her thoughts and smoothing the chaos of her plan. Only then did she finally get up to wash and head to bed.
But tonight, sleep would evade many in the city.
Everyone had their own agendas: the three heavyweights of Alden City, the secondary players, and the smaller factions were all busy meeting, discussing, and scheming.
Tyler, too, was handling matters on all sides, finalizing every partnership and smoothing out last-minute details.
He prepared for every possible scenario after the market opened—just in case. Even if the stock price plummeted at launch, as long as their partners didn’t desert them en masse, as long as there wasn’t some outrageous divorce scandal, and as long as the product quality held steady, things would eventually bounce back.
When it came down to it, his only real problem was his own personal scandals.
The Erickson Group had solid technical backing. That was indisputable.
As dawn crept in, Tyler stood at the enormous floor-to-ceiling window of his office, gazing out at the paling sky, rubbing his temples in exhaustion.
