Emilia stared at the man in front of her, her gaze unwavering.
“That was a long time ago,” she murmured, her eyes glistening.
Theodore nodded with a gentle smile. “Yes, it was many, many years ago.”
So many years had passed, and yet nothing had changed.
His feelings for her had never wavered—not for a single day.
Not even after she married someone else.
He remembered watching her from afar on her wedding day, seeing her in a white dress, standing beside another man.
He saw them light up the city’s skyline with fireworks together.
He had been jealous.
That was why—on that day—he’d dreamed of organizing a drone light show, the kind that would outshine anything Tyler could give her. He wanted to be the one she remembered, the one who left a mark on her heart.
“Come with me,” he said, noticing the shimmer in her eyes. He led her toward another painting.
“This is you at the harbor, picking out spices.” Theodore pointed to the painting, then to the photograph beside it, and finally to a small tin of spices she’d bought back then.
“And this one…”
“This was in Zephyria,” he continued quietly. “You and Tyler were caught in a trap. It was the first time I stepped in to help, to get you both out.”
Emilia paused, her eyes lingering on the painting of a small boat.
She remembered that year—the frantic escape, the fear that their boat might sink before they reached safety, the dread that enemies might be waiting ahead.
That cramped cabin, with only Tyler beside her—at the time, it felt like they had nothing left but each other.
Now, she was learning for the first time that Theodore had been part of that escape, too.
“I stayed behind in Zephyria to clean up the mess you left, and I sent my people to shadow your boat, just to keep you safe,” he explained.
He remembered standing on the deck, watching the boat carrying her and Tyler drift farther and farther away.
“And the blue rain,” Theodore said softly. “That was the first time I saw it—in Zephyria.”
