It was Tyler.
The moment Emilia saw him, all she could think about was that time he cornered her outside her apartment. The memory soured her mood instantly.
Hadn’t he already chosen to be with Vivienne? So why did he keep showing up, blocking her path and throwing everything into chaos?
And now, he’d even come to Theodore’s doorstep.
Theodore helped Emilia off the shuttle, steadying her as she stepped down. On the other side, Tyler had already gotten out and now stood in front of them.
Emilia didn’t want to deal with him. She set her jaw, intent on slipping past him and heading for Theodore’s Bentley.
“You two went out together again,” Tyler’s voice was hoarse, his eyes rimmed red as he looked at her.
“Obviously,” Emilia replied, not bothering to hide her irritation.
Tyler stared at her, and suddenly noticed her eyes—slightly swollen, tinged with red. She’d been crying not long ago.
A sharp pang of guilt hit him. He wanted to know what had happened, to reach out and comfort her.
But Emilia pulled away from his hand, refusing to let him touch her.
“Did he hurt you?” Tyler’s gaze narrowed and flicked sharply to Theodore, worry edging into suspicion.
“No.” Emilia took a step back, moving closer to Theodore. “Tyler, we’re divorced. Don’t touch me.”
Her words, the way she instinctively moved nearer to Theodore, and the utter lack of hesitation—it all twisted the knife in Tyler’s chest.
“Emilia, don’t forget—you and Vivienne are still in the middle of your little rivalry.” Tyler’s voice was raw, his eyes bloodshot. “Whatever you want from the Dennis family is still with the Erickson Group.”
Emilia paused in her tracks, her expression sharpening as she met Tyler’s gaze.
“I know,” she said quietly. “If you’re not blind, you should be able to see I’ve been fighting for a win all along.”
Tyler pressed his lips together, struggling to swallow the pain rising in his throat. He jabbed a finger at Theodore.
“So you want to win,” he spat, jealousy flaring, “and that’s why you’re going out with him? Is this how you plan to win?”
