Emilia had already led the others away.
Meanwhile, Vivienne was struggling to keep up.
She tried to win sympathy the way she used to—by acting frail, even breaking into another fit of coughing.
But this time, the response was different.
“To be honest, if she’s really that sick, maybe she shouldn’t be here at all,” someone commented.
“Agreed,” another chimed in. “Every time, we’re expected to excuse her because she’s unwell. If it were Emilia, no one would let her off that easy.”
But soon, these critical voices were drowned out by others.
Vivienne’s eyes shimmered with tears. Staring into the camera, a single tear traced down her cheek and landed in the bowl she was holding.
She quickly turned away to wipe her eyes.
“It’s fine,” she murmured sadly, head bowed, her fragility almost inviting pity. “I get it. It doesn’t matter what I say.”
“Just by streaming here, I’m already in the wrong. It feels like even existing is a mistake.”
As Vivienne spoke, Emilia and her group entered the next hall.
This room represented the present.
Instant cameras were set out for guests to snap photos and capture memories.
A massive golden river ran through the space, its sparkling currents echoing the jeweled waves from the previous hall. Here, though, golden sand banks, tiny islets, and rocky outcrops dotted the landscape.
On these little beaches and rocks, golden picture frames were arranged—some leaning, some upright—half-shrouded in river mist, mysterious and beautiful.
Each frame was unique in shape and size, with generous white space left open. Set in front of every frame was a new piece from the Golden Collection.
Emilia was in the middle of explaining the display when Vivienne’s voice rang out.
“Emilia!”
Emilia turned to look at the livestream setup.
Vivienne had just finished arranging a new bouquet.
“‘Roses’ by Renoir,” Vivienne said, tear tracks still visible on her face.
Emilia regarded her calmly, waiting.
Vivienne wiped her tears, trying to look brave. “I don’t care what you think of me.”
