Farewell to Love: The CEO's Desperate Chase novel Chapter 78

Vivienne frowned as she read through the email, her eyes scanning each line with care. Then, with a quick check on her phone, she browsed a few legal forums. A moment later, she broke into a light laugh.

"It's nothing," she said, turning back to the wardrobe, sifting through dresses as if the matter hardly concerned her. "You really don't get it, do you?"

Her nurse looked puzzled.

Vivienne, surprisingly patient, explained, "If they truly wanted to hold me accountable, they'd have released that letter publicly—not just sent it to my inbox."

The nurse still seemed lost. "I don't understand."

"They want to see how I'll react," Vivienne continued. "If I panic and start scrambling, they'll know I'm scared, and that's when they'll make outrageous demands."

The nurse's confusion didn't waver. "So what should you do?"

"Just ignore them. Let them stew for now." Vivienne smiled, finally settling on a sleek black evening gown.

She added, "Christian won't dare come after me—after all, I'm not only with Tyler now, but I'm also a tragic, pitiful soul, supposedly on my last legs."

As she spoke, Vivienne pulled a melodramatic face, the very picture of a tragic heroine.

"If Christian doesn't want his brothers to eat him alive, he'd better stay far away from any public drama."

With that, Vivienne tossed the gown to the nurse. "Get this pressed for me, will you?" Then she turned in for the night.

……

Time slipped by in a blur.

Evening fell on the following day before anyone realized it.

Early that morning, Christian had come by to take Emilia away.

Joyce was visibly unhappy, insisting Emilia still needed rest.

It was Felix who finally talked her down.

Watching Christian and Emilia leave, Joyce turned to her brother, exasperated. "You're really just letting Christian take her like that?"

Felix nodded. "Yes."

Of course, Joyce knew there were experts out there who could recover erased data. She wasn't sure how well this company's IT team had scrubbed things, or whether the person she hired would be able to retrieve anything.

She texted Odette, asking for the phone.

Odette hadn't thought much of it; after all, with so many people involved in the production, what difference did one phone make?

It's not like they'd signed the NDA yet—what was the harm?

Odette figured she was in the clear.

"Oh, right, Felix—do you know any good data recovery specialists? Could you put me in touch with someone?" Joyce asked at the hospital.

"I'll make some calls," Felix replied.

Joyce nodded quietly.

She'd been carrying a heavy guilt these past few days.

Even though it hadn't been intentional, Emilia's miscarriage was a direct result of her fight with Vivienne.
