Fake Amy stared at Fiona, her eyes burning with a wild, desperate heat. She never thought Fiona would actually show up at her house. If Fiona caught her now, she was done for. There’d be no way out.
When she saw the real Amy walk in with Fiona, everything clicked into place. Years of careful planning—ruined. If she’d known it would end like this, she would’ve joined forces with Josie and gotten rid of Fiona from the start.
“So, what should I call you now?” Fiona’s grip tightened around the imposter’s wrist before she flung her to the floor. “Fake Amy? Or is it Grace?”
Fake Amy froze, staring up at Fiona like she couldn’t believe what was happening. She looked like a cornered animal, ready to lash out. “Fiona, how do you know? How do you even know my real name?” Her voice shook as she dragged herself up, hands trembling.
“Fiona, what else do you know? Tell me! Just tell me!” Gone was any shred of dignity—she crawled to Fiona’s feet, begging for answers.
But Fiona said nothing, didn’t even bother to explain. It was like she was dangling the truth just out of reach on purpose, watching her squirm.
“Why won’t you talk? Fiona, say something! Why won’t you just say it?” Fake Amy’s voice broke, desperation twisting into a cold, empty laugh as she pulled herself up again. Her eyes were full of hopelessness, but nobody there cared.
The real Amy sat huddled on the couch, clutching a pomegranate-shaped pillow, her eyes darting between the two. She looked terrified, barely breathing.
“So, that’s it. You want the secrets from Country M’s research lab, don’t you, Fiona?” she sneered, leaning in close, a twisted smile on her lips. “Well, I’m not telling you. Never.”
“You’re right,” Fiona said, her voice steady. “I need to know—because Jackson’s parents are there.”
“I knew it!” The imposter’s laughter turned wild. “I knew you had an angle! If it wasn’t for this, you would’ve killed me a long time ago. The only reason I’m still here is because of that. But you’ll never get what you want. Even if I die, I’ll never tell you. If I go down, Jackson’s parents are going down with me. And honestly? That makes me feel great.”
