Forced Marriage: My Wife, My Redemption novel Chapter 354

Chapter 354: Taking the offensive...

The sun was already high and scorching in the sky as Jessica’s car rolled out of Bassai village.

The countryside slipped past the windows in a blur of dry grass and endless road, but her mind wasn’t on the view.

Throughout the trip, she had been consumed by her thoughts, carefully weighing the best course of action concerning the lingering issues that now demanded her attention.

She reached for her phone and tapped the screen. Notifications lit up instantly with missed calls, unread messages, updates all demanding her attention.

On arrival and all the while she was with her grandma, she hadn’t bothered to check on the phone. To put bluntly, she had purposefully ignored it.

Partly because of the emotional rollercoaster she’d been on.

And partly because she didn’t want to deal with anything when her composure wasn’t in place and her focus wasn’t steady.

Her fingers moved swiftly across the screen, and with a click, the device unlocked.

She skimmed through her inbox, her gaze softening when she reached Davis’s reply to her message from earlier that morning:

"Peaceful and calming."

A small, involuntary smile tugged at the corners of her lips. That had been the very thought in her mind when she captured that photo and sent out to him.

The view had really been peaceful and calming for her tensed and anxious nerves.

She wondered when they began to think so alike, to share similar sentiments over things that once would’ve passed unnoticed.

Maybe this was what it meant to be with someone who truly understood her deeply and wordlessly.

She opened her call log and discovered she had several missed calls glaring at her. With a quiet sigh, she turned her gaze to the window and spoke to the driver.

"On estimate, how long before we arrive at the estate?"

The driver kept his eyes fixed on the road. "Three hours and a few minutes, ma’am."

She groaned lightly and shook her head with a helpless sigh.. "That’s a long way. Which means I may not get into the city in time to pick out a befitting dress for the banquet," she murmured under her breath.

Her phone vibrated. She glanced at the phone lightly; her gaze lingered for a tidbit before she slid her thumb across the screen of the phone.

"Hello," she said softly.

"Good day, ma’am," came the voice of one of her subordinates.

"Yes?" she asked, straightening a little as she prepared to listen to the report.

"The Louis family has given Vera two months to secure the leadership mandate of the Allen Group," he reported bluntly.

Jessica’s brows arched. "Two months?" she echoed, her voice tinged with disbelief and thinly veiled disdain.

"Yes, ma’am."

"Yes," the subordinate responded while he awaited further instructions.

Jessica exhaled slowly, her eyes narrowing as she leaned into the seat.

"That is just a bluff. The Louis family is already on the verge of insanity, so there is no need to bother about their instructions or claim." She smirked, a cold glint flashing in her eyes.

Who cares what the Louis family wants to do?

Since the Louis family is the problem, then it’s time for the Louis family to understand their place.

And Vera, who had deliberately made herself a pawn in their reckless game was hardly worth her attention.

With several other pressing matters, Vera is the least of her problems.

But then, this time, she wouldn’t be giving her the chance and opportunity to mess with her.

If she thinks she can only be a pawn, then definitely leaving the Group should be the best option.

Taking a deep breath, "I’d handle the upcoming shareholders’ meeting as planned.

By the end of the meeting, let me see if she can actually keep her place in the Allen Group?"She mused.

"What should be done about them, ma’am?" the subordinate asked cautiously.
