Forced Marriage: My Wife, My Redemption novel Chapter 359

Chapter 359: No regrets...

With Jessica awake, Davis rounded off his work as they both left his office, heading downstairs towards his car.

After her arrival, she had instructed the driver to return the car and told the guards not to bother waiting since she was just coming over to the company briefly.

She was certain that if she arrived at Davis’ office, he wouldn’t allow her to leave alone and not just that, but she also needed some rest.

As they reached at his car, the driver was already waiting for them, along with just three guards who had been on standby.

Davis helped her settle down before he slid in beside her, and the door shut closed with a light thud.

The driver glanced at the rearview mirror, silently asking for direction. Davis, noting the brief pause, spoke calmly, "Drive to the hospital."

The driver left the parking lot and headed towards the gate. As it pulled out of the company gates and joined the highway, the shadow guards followed, merging into the traffic effortlessly like ordinary commuters.

Seeing the car pull away from sight, Luke Norman stepped out of the shadows. His gaze trailed the car as it disappeared down the road.

His fist clenched briefly, and taking a deep breath, he released his hand and stepped forward but was halted by a voice behind him.

"Are you really just an assistant like you made Davis believe?" Vera asked, a mocking smile playing on her lips.

She had been lurking in the shadows just to observe Davis and possibly to get a handle on him.

She wanted to observe whether Davis was really treating Jessica well behind closed doors or if it was just a camouflage to get what they wanted.

But she was more shocked when she found another shadow lurking around with his fist clenched, an attitude that piques her curiosity.

"Miss, do I know you?" Luke asked, turning to her.

""You may not know me," she said, stepping into the light, "but there’s no harm in introductions. We could get to know each other right now." Her smile was light but probing.

Luke stared at her in silence for a while as though he was just seeing her for the first time while he contemplated his options.

After a brief pause, he spoke, his voice cold and devoid of emotion. "Well, I guess you are right. Hello, ma’am." He greeted her with distant politeness.

Noting the ice in his tone and subtle disdain laced in his words, Vera’s face twisted into several shades of colour, her anger palpable.

Yet, she carefully masked her anger as she took a deep breath to suppress her rage.

She still needed a partner, someone capable to pull herself out of the mess left behind by the Louis family.

As far as she was concerned, the Louis family’s goals no longer mattered. Her priority now was clear: remove the Alpha Project from her hands, sever all ties to incriminating deals, and secure her position in the Allen family especially now that Aaron had refused to sign the divorce papers.

Luke, meanwhile, had no interest in her internal turmoil or how she felt. In his eyes, she would always be just another pawn, useful and disposable.

And at the moment, she had made the first move. Knowing the situation surrounding her, he was certain she was in desperate need of an ally.

Seeing her spacing out, his lips curled up with mocking concern. "Ma’am, are you okay?"

""Am... I’m okay," she stammered. "So, you’re the new assistant assigned to the President, right?" she asked, stepping closer.

Luke took a step back. "Of course, I am," he said with a smirk.

"And what do I call you?" she asked, her eyes scanning his chiseled, emotionless face. She gulped. "He’s not just handsome... he’s dangerous," she mused internally. "Interesting."

As she watched him, it became clear. Davis wouldn’t realize what kind of man he’d brought close.

Forming an alliance with Luke might just be her best card yet to get herself away from the mess.

"Luke Norman," he said. His voice sliced through the silence.

"Luke Norman?" Vera chewed on the word as though it was a mystery

"Why is she finding this name a bit familiar?

Why does it seem like a name that is linked to the Louis and Allen family?"

After a brief pause of contemplation, she shrugged internally. "You are welcome then. I am Vera Louis, the Vice President."

Luke’s eyes narrowed at the introduction, but he wouldn’t let anyone destroy his dreams and his plans. He nodded and decided to leave.
