Sienna’s POV
The words stuck with me, but I didn’t know why. His tone was one of acceptance rather than sadness or regret. This morning, maybe it was that. Why is that? Both of us had stopped running and were gradually relearning to walk together.
The door was half open, and I could smell the faint espresso odor.
Liam stared at me briefly before dismounting his seatbelt. “Come on.”
After that, I nodded and opened the door and walked out.
We reached a tiny coffee shop situated close to Noah’s school. The place was not busy earlier, only a handful of customers perusing laptops or newspapers.
A friendly smile was seen on the barista as she asked what they wanted to order.
With a smile on his face, Liam nodded and asked if he wanted ‘two cappuccinos and chocolate croissants‘.
I chuckled. “I’m really into chocolate croissants. What could it be?”
“I’m surprised to hear that you had a liking for those,” he said.
“You’re welcome to see all of my favorites.” I cracked in response. It was so sweet.
Our choice was to sit at the table near the sizable window. I saw the narrow street outside, people passing by, and the rising sun in the sky. It felt so peaceful that I hadn’t seen it in a long time.
The phone of Liam was placed on the table with him facing away from me. His intention to give me his full attention was only reflected in one small gesture.
“This is the longest we’ve ever sat like this,” he said out of an early inkling.
“I gazed at the cup in front of me and concluded, “Yes, it has. It feels strange, but nice.”
Liam smiled, his eyes down at my face: “So glad you’re here, Sienna. Noah is too. The house feels more alive when you’re present.”

We had a moment of quiet conversation, but it was not the awkward type. The warm atmosphere felt like the reunion of two long–distance relationships.
I took a moment to relax and enjoy myself. “It still feels like everything is happening too fast at times. I am uncertain about my next move with the group.”
Liam didn’t answer right away.
After giving me a brief glance, he said softly, “Sienna, We don’t have to rush. I know you need time. I am here, and I will remain there. I’m not going anywhere.”
I lowered my gaze, trying to keep the small smile on my lips hidden. His words were both uncomplicated and calming. It seemed as though my worries had disappeared entirely.

Our coffees arrived. Thinning steam emanated from the white cups, and with my chest tingling, it was like a refreshing breeze. As I stirred, my reflection rippled across the surface.
Liam observed the morning traffic outside his window and commented, “It’s funny how this feels just like yesterday.” He was joking around. We had a great time sitting together after giving Noah shit, talking about small things.
As I looked around me, there was a couple who had just dropped off their child at school. “Exactly. But also not the same.”
He turned to me. “Not anymore, since we understand the experience of losing something.”
I fell silent. The sentence was straightforward, but it had a profound impact on me. I nodded slowly because I didn’t know what to say.
With a whispered voice, Liam expressed his regret at not being in the same place as him for an extended period. “It makes me wish that we had made amends.”
It was my belief that time would provide a lasting solution, but it only made me realize the significance of your
presence.
Upon looking up, I found the truthful words of his mouth. There was no dramatic effect from his tone – but it did make my chest hurt so bad.
“Liam…” I hung my head high, carefully selecting my words. “I don’t want to keep repeating the same incident.”
Still, I’m clueless about how to restart.
With a small smile, not expressing sadness but with empathy, he said, “Let us start with the basics. Like sitting here. Talking. We can spend our time together without having to think about anything.”
As I looked back at him, we both smiled The presence was comforting, without any grand promises or desperate hopes. It felt like home. What could it be?
My mind was busy, and I still had thoughts about it.
While there are deadlines, papers to write, competitions to attend, being with Noah and you make things easier for all of us. Like I can finally breathe.
The tenderness of Liam’s chuckles indicated that I had finally returned home.
With a quick glance at him, time seemed to be passing by. The honesty that once made me fall in love was also evident to him. No big promises or beautiful words, but a genuine presence. What’s important is to be quiet.
Upon finishing our coffee, we talked about small stories how Liam was too busy to work, how Noah had become so talkative, and my unfinished story. At times, we had a laugh, and I found myself staring at him for more than ten minutes.
