Sienna’s POV
I whispered, “He’s mature enough, doesn’t he?”
With a single glance towards the same direction, Liam nodded in agreement. “It’s too fast to judge. But I’m proud.”
I nodded slightly, my gaze fixed on the classroom door that had recently swallowed this little creature. It was so beautiful. There was an odd sensation in my heart – pride, happiness, and some discomfort. It felt like yesterday when I taught him how to hold a spoon properly, but now he’s big enough to walk into his classroom and not look back.
Standing beside me, Liam was silent and didn’t speak much, but his presence alone reassured me. We were still in the cool morning air, but the sun was heating up our skin. There were more children coming in, with some running around and others crying to have their hands on him again. A familiar rhythm of soothing parents, teachers, and swift movement of children arose in this morning.
I breathed deeply, striving to keep the tension in my mind. One of the things I liked was that Noah’s start at school was a moment to make new friends and explore his own world. In contrast, I understood that today marked the start of a distance that would gradually stretch. He had moved away from me for the first time today, and that’s exactly what I wanted to do:
Despite the bag still being on my shoulder, I felt my fingers tightly grip the strap. This was instinctive. As I looked at Liam, his arms crossed, he had an ungainly but distant look. The way he looked could have been indicative of pride or the same year I had wanted.
“When he was a baby, I used to think about this moment,” I said slowly.
The weight of it has exceeded my expectations.
Liam smiled but didn’t respond. Our faces remained silent as we observed the same direction, resembling two ancient guardians who had recently opened the portal to the future.
A slight wind gently swept through my hair, pulling it across the face.” I placed them behind my ear and looked down. There was a small gap between us and the sunlit pavement where Noah had been standing. That picture possessed a strong symbolic value.”
My heart was filled with gratitude as I wished him well in the world.
Certain parents began moving away. I still couldn’t move. My feet were heavy, as if taking the step at this time would mean acknowledging that our lives had been altered today.‘
I looked at Liam again. He’d lowered his arms, one hand in the pocket. His gaze shifted toward me. For a brief moment, we gazed in wonderlong, meaningless. Something unrevealed, lost and sensitive.
My face flickered with a faint smile as I whispered, “Noah’s first day at school is just so amazing!”
Liam raised an eyebrow, his lips curving with a delicate smile, but I knew he was struggling with the same emotion as me.

We stood there for a few seconds, as if we were anticipating something. Liam smiled and looked at me with a warm hand.
“Do you suggest I have coffee before heading to the office?” he asked softly.
I chuckled slightly. “Coffee sounds absolutely perfect.”
As we slowly made our way back to the car, leaving the schoolyard, we were met with laughter and a hearty welcome. There was a warmth that could not be replicated in my chest, the kind of pure happiness.
As we walked on the sidewalk, the morning air became more and more pleasant. We followed our feet, slowly, in tandem. The silence was a comfortable one, not due to utterances from others, but because we were left with no more information to provide. We both knew that the moment at school had already spoken for itself.
The vehicle was situated within close proximity to the school gate. I glanced at the building again when Liam opened the door for me. My ears remained fixed on the sound of children laughing, footsteps running through the yard, and teachers calling out. It was still there. The warmth in my heart was so gentle, as if part of me had persisted in growing and developing alongside Noah.
As the car slowly parked up in the school parking lot, I watched as the trees lined up the road and leaped back. The morning was beautiful. A golden glow was illuminating the glass as sunlight rose and illuminated Liam’s face.
Despite his tone, he spoke with warmth and sincerity, saying, “I’m glad you came today.‘
My gaze widened slightly towards him. “As well as you, too. It seems like the start of a new phase.‘
With a nod to his surroundings and eyes fixed on the road, he had remained composed with smug smiles.
The rest of the journey went by peacefully.. The only sound in the room was the gentle hum of the radio, which was a familiar melody that perfectly captured the morning mood. Looking down at my hands on my lap, I smiled. There was a peaceful sensation that I couldn’t pinpoint, suggesting that the world had been experiencing chaos and was gradually returning to normal.
