From Neglected Wife to CEO’s Obsession novel Chapter 189

I picked up the report with numb fingers. It was only two pages, but it felt impossibly heavy, like my whole world was balanced on that thin stack of paper. I lost count of how many times I tried to open it, only to lose my nerve and let it fall closed again.

If the results were what I feared, it would be like signing Remy’s death warrant.

Yes, Remy had made mistakes. But nothing that deserved this. Nothing that should end his life. He still had a mother, a daughter—people who needed him.

I knew I could never live with him again, but I still wanted him to live.

After what felt like forever, I finally forced myself to look.

HIV and syphilis. Both positive. I stared at the words, part of me weirdly calm, as if I’d known all along. But another part of me screamed in denial, refusing to accept it.

In that moment, the whole world I’d built around loving Remy just crumbled. Maybe this was why he’d always kept his distance. Maybe that was his way of protecting me.

I drifted back to the operating room, barely aware of my own footsteps. The nurse was waiting, tapping her foot with impatience. She glanced at the report, shot me a strange look, then slammed the heavy metal door behind us.

I started pacing the hallway, taking shaky breaths, trying to calm the storm inside me. Nothing helped. I just felt trapped in my own skin.

An hour and a half later, Remy finally came out.

The doctor wanted him admitted to the infectious disease ward for treatment, but he wouldn’t listen. No matter what anyone said, he kept refusing. He just sat on the hard bench in the corridor for a while, then insisted on going back to the hotel.
