So Winnie kept playing, while Bianca watched silently. Neither spoke or acknowledged the other.

When Katelyn came upstairs after cooking, expecting a warm mother- daughter moment, she found them utterly silent.

Standing at the door, Katelyn knocked and said, “Madam, Winnie, dinner’s ready.”

Bianca stood and told Winnie, “Winnie, time for dinner downstairs.”

Only then did Winnie drop her toys. She brushed past Bianca, ran to Katelyn, grabbed her hand, and asked, “Katelyn, what yummy things did you make tonight?”

Katelyn glanced at Bianca before answering Winnie, “Katelyn made your favorite shrimp.”

Winnie beamed, “Thanks, Katelyn! You’re the best!”

Bianca stood frozen in the bedroom, her whole body turning to ice.

Winnie got along with everyone–except her own mother.

Downstairs, Winnie and Maxine were already seated and eating when Bianca arrived.

As Bianca sat, Maxine rolled her eyes and muttered, “Shameless.”

Bianca stood firm, telling Katelyn, “I said Winnie’s grown. Don’t coddle her. Tend to your duties–she can eat alone.”

Finally, Katelyn obeyed Bianca and left the dining room.

With nobody peeling her shrimp, Winnie burst into tears.

Bianca watched her cry, offering no comfort.

Maxine saw this and quickly turned to Winnie: “Winnie, stop crying now, okay? Maxine will peel it for you.”

Winnie nodded with red–rimmed eyes: “Okay, thank you, Maxine.”

While peeling shrimp, Maxine said to Winnie: “Do you understand now who truly cares for you and who doesn’t?”

Before Winnie could respond, Bianca slammed her Eating Utensils down. She shot up from her chair: “Winnie, come upstairs with me. We need to talk.”

Winnie continued ignoring Bianca as if she were invisible.

Winnie struggled in Bianca’s arms but couldn’t break free from her stronger grip.

Soon, Winnie found herself dumped onto the sofa in the room.
