Chapter 13

Meanwhile, Megan was in the recording studio. She was preparing a song for Celestial Voice’sfirst live broadcast, but nothing felt right.

So, she decided to change her clothes and head to the dance studio next door to come up with a simple choreography. Although Celestial Voicewas a singing competition, incorporating some dance elements would be a good bonus.

The dance studio, recording studio, makeup room, cafeteria, dressing rooms, and storerooms were all part of Ferrell Entertainment’s practice building.

Ferrell Entertainment, a famous company in Acreport, was deeply involved in many entertainmentrelated industries. Their facilities were topnotch. Even celebrities not signed under Ferrell Entertainment often came here to rehearse or rent the space for personal use.

After marrying Howard, Megan had three daily responsibilities. The first was taking care of his grandparents and spending time with them.

The second was managing Howard’s schedule and handling Larson Group’s Stafford family, Larson Group had absorbed their businesses.

To this day, Larson Group still had a department dedicated to handling everything they inherited from the Staffords. Even though the staff and much of the work had changed since then, Megan found it easy to handle.

Her third responsibility was coming to Ferrell Entertainment’s practice building. Publicly, she claimed it was just her hobby as a composer, but in truth, she was secretly recording music samples as Quinn. That was why her presence here didn’t seem strange.

Since she was practicing dance, Megan tied her hair up and wore old clothes, looking much like her former self. She didn’t notice another pair of eyes quietly watching her.

Megan tried many different choreographies, but none of them felt right. Whether it was the song or the dance, everything felt off today.

A strange unease gnawed at her, leaving her restless, as though something bad was about to happen. It shook her state of mind.

Taking a deep breath, she closed her eyes to compose herself. After a while, she gave up and scrapped everything. When she checked the time, it was already 9:00 pm.

Shaking her head, Megan wiped the sweat from her forehead. She decided to head home and rest before trying again tomorrow.

Utterly drained from the day’s events, Megan was too tired to change her clothes or shoes. She simply threw on a coat and went straight to the parking

lot.

It was April, and Acreport was slowly warming up. At 9:00 pm, the city was still alive with cars streaming through the streetsdreary yet vibrant at

once.

Megan took the elevator down to the parking lot. Her heart pounded even before she started walking to her car, though she didn’t know why.

Her loud, rapid heartbeat filled her ears. When her adrenaline spiked, she instinctively leaped into a flowerbed beside her.

Almost immediately, a car sped past. It was so close that her coat fluttered in its draft.

Cold sweat broke out across her back. If she hadn’t jumped, she would’ve been hit.

Before Megan could even feel fear, the black car had already turned around. It drove straight into the flowerbed it had just missed, which was surrounded by a kneehigh concrete fence.

Now as the car barreled toward her, its intention was clearit was trying to hit her.

But who? And why?

How long had they been waiting? Were they watching her from the dance studio?

Did they have an accomplice inside the practice building?

Was one person inside and another here in the parking lot, working together to kill her?

How should she handle this?

Those thoughts flashed through Megan’s mind in an instant. Then she made her decision.

As the car charged toward the flowerbed, she dodged to the side. The black car slammed into the concrete. Its engine roared as it pressed forward, trying to force through.

While it was stuck, Megan bolted toward her car. Returning to the building wasn’t an optionsomeone might be waiting there.

The nearest mall was too far, and there weren’t many places nearby to hide. If she headed there, the car would hit her before she could arrive.

Her best option was to reach her own car and drive to the police station. Luckily, her car was close.

Fueled by survival instincts, Megan sprinted faster than ever and squeezed into the driver’s seat.

Just as she closed the door, the black car rammed hers. The violent shake left her dizzy and nauseous. She gagged, nearly throwing up.

With a rumble, the black car backed up again, ready to strike. Megan forced down the nausea, started the engine, and hit the gas,

Her car lurched forward just as the black vehicle smashed into the one beside hers.

Without hesitation, she swerved onto the road. Seeing the black car railing her in the rearview mirror, Megan grabbed her phone and dialed the
