Chapter 44

Alyssa’s voice was low and tinged with anger. When she next spoke, it sounded like a snake hissing.

“Style? Professionalism?” She cackled. “Elena, don’t you think you’re acting too high–and–mighty?”

Megan stared calmly back at Alyssa. “So, what about you? I don’t get it. You’ve only got half a year left to live. Why are you still fixated on these trivial things? Wouldn’t it be better to just relax and enjoy your last days?”

Alyssa’s eyes flashed. Naturally, she couldn’t tell Megan that she was only pretending to be sick.

Therefore, she changed the topic. “You can still change your mind now and join my team. Or, we could collaborate in another way.”

She took a step forward, making her and Megan only a hair’s away from each other. She said, “I’m giving you some time to consider it because we’re fighting on the same side, with the same enemies.”

With that, Alyssa left, leaving Megan standing in place alone.

Megan watched her retreating figure.

So, what was all this for? Alyssa wanted Howard, but he was already hers now. So, why was she still doing all this?

Just to pick on Megan? But what was the point?

Time passed in the blink of an eye. The filming for the show lasted from morning to night. Only then did

the live stream come to an end.

From the performers to the production team and the live audience, everyone was utterly exhausted.

It was pitch black outside.

Megan was helped into her car because she was nearly dead on her feet and stumbling unsteadily.

Jimmy held her up, sighing.

Megan knew what he meant with that sigh. However, she’d just wanted to join the show.

She was restless. She needed to get stronger as fast as possible to regain control over everything.

As they rounded the corner, she saw someone standing beside her car. It was Howard.

Megan eyed Jimmy, but the latter shook his head and indicated that he had no idea what was going on.

“Why don’t we have a talk?”

Jimmy wanted to say something, but Megan pressed his hand once, stabilizing herself. She indicated for

Howard to follow her into a small forest nearby.

“What would you like to talk to me about, Mr. Larson?” asked Megan.

The second she spoke, Howard felt as though he’d heard that voice somewhere.

He looked down at the woman before him. She had a coat draped over her performance costume, but even then, it was evident that she was extremely bony.

None of the women he knew fit that description. At least, none were that skinny.

Howard noticed the question behind her masked eyes. He asked, “Why did you toy with Alyssa while you were picking teams just now?”
