For days, Selena had carried the weight of guilt.

She knew Megan had said it only to ease her guilt, just as years ago, when Megan had taken her along to

Night fell over Acreport.

Luxury cars arrived one after another at a villa on a mountain. Crowds gathered outside as reporters and paparazzi lined from the foot of the hill to the mountain top.

Only a handful of reporters would be allowed into the venue. For everyone else, this was an opportunity. With so many of Acreport’s elite attending, any sensational photo or rumor could sell for a fortune.

The road was crowded with people, cameras flashing in every direction. As car after car rolled into the vast parking lot, the bursts of light turned night into day.

Megan sat quietly in the passenger seat of a red Ferrari while Jimmy drove them up the hill. The gala’s donations were meant for sick children, so it was not a night for lavish clothing.

Megan wore a simple silver satin gown that clung elegantly to her slender figure. She covered her face with a silver mask made to match the dress, leaving her lips exposed for the wine tasting.

Moonlight streamed through the window, spilling over her like a veil. Sitting beside Jimmy, she looked as if she were glowing in the pale light.

The gala was hosted by Ferrell Group, which meant the entire event was on their turf. They were the center of attention the moment Jimmy’s Ferrari pulled into the lot. Everyone was especially focused on the masked woman in the passenger seat.

“Elena?”

“Is the woman in the mask Elena?”

“Mr. Ferrell, are you and Elena in a relationship?”

“Mr. Ferrell, are you planning on going public with your relationship by bringing Elena with you tonight?”

Reporters and photographers surged forward with their microphones and cameras. Security moved fast, pushing people back and forcing order into the chaos.
