He hadn’t even finished when his brow furrowed, and his frail body gave out, slumping to the ground in a trembling heap.

“Mr. Frederic!” Mr. Murray cried, catching the old man’s gaunt frame before he could hit the floor.

In the chaos, Evadne sprinted over and dropped to one knee beside Hamilton, immediately starting chest compressions and rescue breaths.

“Ms. Evadne! How did you—?” Mr. Murray stared at her in astonishment.

Sweat plastered Evadne’s hair to her forehead, but her eyes were steady and fierce. “Murray, help me get him in my car. I’ll drive Granddad to the hospital!”
