Clutching the dagger tightly in my arm, I limped towards the half broken wooden cupboards lined throughout the farthest wall.

The wooden doors were creaking, a few barely held together by a hinge that could come off any second.

I knew it was a futile effort yet I didnt want to think that I didnt try. So, I moved my body even if it felt like I was tearing my limbs apart.

I was used to training and Killian’s brutal words but I had not been awake for hours, running on pure adrenaline.

Besides, I didn’t have a wolf either.

At times like these, I truly envied those who didn’t have just their human strength to draw power from.

Still I kept walking ahead and checked through the cupboards for any sign of Trov’s belongings or a vial that could be what Killian needed.

The cupboards looked like they hadn’t been used in forever. There was dust and cobwebs everywhere.

And with each emply shelf, the hope inside me dimmed a little. It was hard to keep hoping and convicing myself that everything was going to be okay when it was just despair and gloom all around me.

It was a wonder how quickly I got adjusted to see dead bodies when earlier even the sight of blood would make me squirm.

Panting and limping, I finished checking through the cupboards as the creaked windowpane fluttered due to the wind.

I saw my reflection in one of those dirty windowpanes and couldnt even be sure the reflection staring back at me was mine.

It felt like I had aged ten years in the last few hours.

My maid’s dress was crumpled and I knew if I had to walk out and find Killian again, I wouldnt survive in this cheap fabric.

Then another thought popped up in my head and I looked around to see the dead bodies. All of them were wearing armor that protected vital organs.

And that would help that wandering down the dungeons while wearing just the skimpy dress Martin gave me or the maid’s gown.

So I put the dagger aside and started looking around for clothes that could fit me.

The soldiers were all broad and tall compared to me who was a lot more lean and on the shorter side.

I quickly looked around and noticed there was nobody to look, so I rushed back to the cupboards to find any extra pair of clothing that could fit me.

To my utter disappointment, all of them were two or three sizes bigger to me. And that is when my eyes fell on the soldier lying farthest from Torv,

He was the one who had attacked me and I had been able to tackle him a bit because he was either a rookie or just lightweight or both.

When I reached his body I noticed that he was just a size bigger than me and his clothes could fit me. Though they were drenched in blood, sweat and other bodily fluids.

My nose wrinkled in disgust but my safety was far more important than smelly clothes so I quickly stripped him off his clothes, trying not to gag at the smell of blood and urine, dumped them in a nearby pit of soil to get rid of the stench and cover it with a thin layer of dust and sand to keep myself away from puking.

Then I quickly changed into his clothes and also his armor that was still big for me but not too much, rolled on the floor and sand to ensure my face and hands would also not give away my identity and got up.

When I looked back at my reflection to be sure that I wouldnt be easily identified, I saw a face covered in mud, dust and also dried blood.

Now that I was prepared and well hidden, I stepped outside the barracks and noticed that the day had already morphed into night.

There were piles and piles of bodies yet the fight was still going on. Though a quick scan told me the number of soldiers of Elorin that had fallen to their deaths was quite big.

I found myself a path with the least amount of soldiers alive and began to slowly move through the battlefield.

It had not even been a minute where I had started walking and suddenly I felt something grip my ankle tightly.

Instinct had me scream but then I realized it would give me away so I quickly put a hand on my mouth to muffle the voice and looked down.

A soldier was lying on the ground, bloodied and injured beyond measure.

Please, I cant stand the pain. Kill me, please.

He said to me in a hoarse voice.

I had never killed anyone, I would not even hurt a fly if I could.

But the man was in tears and visible pain that could be seen on his face.

PleaseHe rasped. It hurts, I cant take it anymore.”

I stared at him in horror and disbelief as he looked at the dagger in my hand.
