I Quit Being a Stepmother (Cypress Gem) novel Chapter 230

Chapter 230

Aiden slowly nodded, saying, Yeah.

Rhea’s hand briefly paused just as she was wiping Arielle’s.

She didn’t know what that was supposed to mean. Were they trying to push her back together with Carter?

As if that was even possible.

Meanwhile, Lauren’s hand froze midair, clutching her wineglass. Her face flushed with

embarrassment before she forced herself to set it down.

What the hell was Peter even saying? What were they trying to do? Did no one see that she was sitting right here?

She turned to Carter and noticed that his gaze was fixed on Rhea.

Carter couldn’t even explain it himself. All dinner long, he just felt this rare sense of warmth. It had been so long since he had last seen Rhea sitting with the children like this.

For a moment, he found himself craving this kind of peace, instead of coming home only to hear the kids complaining to him.

After snapping out of it, Carter said, Let’s eat. I can’t drink, so you guys enjoy.

His legs still hadn’t healed, so he couldn’t drink too often.

Just then, Peter lifted his glass. Mrs. Jamison.

Lauren instinctively answered, Yeah?

Peter immediately frowned. He really couldn’t tolerate Lauren anymore. She was well aware that he wasn’t talking to her, yet she still insisted on butting in.

He didn’t spare her a shred of courtesy as he said, I wasn’t talking to you.

Lauren had thought Peter would at least show her some courtesy so she wouldn’t be left this embarrassed. Clearly, she had expected too much.

She gritted her teeth, and her eyes burned with unshed tears.

However, the people who once defended her didn’t care about her anymore.

Peter turned directly to Rhea. Allow me to be formal for now. Mrs. Jamison, I know I was impolite before, and I’d like to apologize. You’ve worked hard raising Arielle and Adrian all these years, and you’ll always deserve our respect. From now on, if you ever need my help, just say the word.

After saying that, he drained his glass in one go.

The sight made Lauren’s ears ring with fury, but there was nothing she could do.

Rhea leaned back in her chair, her smile faint. I only came tonight for the kids. Let’s not mention the past. It’s nothing more than a dark chapter to me.

She didn’t need Peter’s apology, and she certainly wasn’t considering getting back together with

Carter.

However, she had to put Lauren in her place. What Lauren was desperate for meant nothing to Rhea.

Mom.Arielle looked up at Rhea. “Can you stay with me and Adrian tonight? We’ve received our new textbooks, and there’s a lot we don’t understand. You can tell us about the fun places in Draventh, too!

Rhea lowered her gaze.

Before she could decline, Carter said, Stay the night. The maids are all here. You can take the second floor. I’ll stay downstairs.

Lauren’s heart skipped a beat.

MomArielle tugged at Rhea’s hand, her eyes wide and pleading. World’s best mom, please say
