Chapter 247
“Why do you need 50 million dollars?” Carter asked.
Ever since news about him broke in Colburn, Jamison Group had suffered significant losses, and his personal finances had taken a hit as well.
When he arrived in Draventh, he had already spent a substantial amount on the villa and on establishing his social connections.
He wasn’t broke, but he wondered if a meeting truly required that hefty sum.
Lauren listed off her reasoning. “Elena is the daughter of a jeweler. Ordinary gifts won’t impress her. I need to find something special. And if I want to build a friendship, I’ll have to buy her meals.
“Even a simple lunch at places she likes could easily cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. What if she insists on afternoon tea abroad? I can’t exactly risk bringing too little and embarrassing myself.”
Carter sighed. “That’s still too much. I’ll give you a bank card with ten million dollars first. Call me if it’s not enough.”
Lauren showed no sign of disappointment. Instead, she smiled warmly. “Thank you, Carter. I know your company was just established in Draventh and funds are tight, yet you’re still supporting me
like this.”
Carter felt pleased at her thoughtfulness. “It’s what I should do.”
After breakfast, Carter went to work. Even with a leg injury, he had to keep working.
Once he left, Lauren returned to her room and called Holly. “I’ll transfer you the three million dollars I owe you.”
Holly teased, “Wow, you have money now? Carter gave it to you? It sounds like things are taking off
in Draventh.”
Lauren filed her nails. “He only gave me ten million dollars.”
“That’s really not much,” Holly said. “Is he reluctant to spend on you?”
“I’m not sure about that. I haven’t asked him about his finances.”
Lauren continued, “Honestly, what can ten million dollars even do? That old man in Dalmora used to give me over eight million dollars a month. I’m the mother of Carter’s children, yet this is all I get? Maybe he really doesn’t have any feelings for me anymore.”
Holly lowered her voice. “Come on, Lauren. What you want is a legitimate life. With Carter, you get proper status and money. Maybe not as much as you had with those old men, but at least you can

Lauren sighed. “Not good. Those two little brats almost drove me crazy. How did I even give birth to them? They haven’t called me Mom once and are constantly giving me attitude.”
“Don’t get mad. Just have two more kids,” Holly suggested.
Lauren rubbed her stomach. “If I get pregnant this time, and it’s a boy, those two ingrates will be completely useless to me. I’ll find a reason to convince Carter to send them to boarding school to keep them out of my way.”
After a brief chat, they hung up.
