Lauren hadn’t expected Elena to change the subject. She forced a smile and said, “Right. As long as you’re happy.”

After two drinks, Lauren asked, “How is Mr. Austin doing?”

“He’s fine. He’s just swamped every day. I hardly see him. But he should be coming to Draventh in a few days,” Elena replied.

Lauren’s eyes lit up. “Maybe Carter and I can host him for dinner. I’ll do the cooking, and you can try

it.”

Elena pouted. “I don’t know my dad’s schedule yet. We’ll see later.”

Lauren’s expression shifted slightly. “Sure.”

She sensed that Elena was avoiding her invitation and attempts to get close.

However, that was understandable. After all, they hadn’t been in contact for years. They needed time to rebuild that connection.

Elena’s gaze landed on Lauren’s ankle. “What happened to your ankle?”

Lauren exhaled slowly. “I got hit by a car. It shouldn’t have been this bad, but the top–notch professor at the time had ties to Rhea, so he refused to operate on me. Otherwise, my ankle wouldn’t still hurt after all this time.”

Elena frowned slightly. She couldn’t understand what Lauren was going on about. After all, she hadn’t even asked about who refused to operate on her.

Lauren wasn’t like this before. Elena remembered her as cheerful, carefree, and confident.

She didn’t comment further. Instead, she simply said, “You should take good care of it.”

“Ms. Austin, try some seafood. It’s the specialty here,” Marcus said.

Elena smiled, “Sure. But I’ll need to use the restroom first.”

She had just seen that the man had gone there too.

Outside the restroom, when Nathan came out, he had his phone pressed between his ear and shoulder as he walked to the sink and turned on the faucet.

He was in the middle of a call when he felt someone’s gaze on him.

Elena’s lips curved. “Hi. Could we get to know each other?”

Nathan had already noticed her sitting with Lauren earlier.

Protective of Rhea as always, he figured that anyone hanging around Lauren couldn’t be much good.

“No.” Nathan refused bluntly.

However, Elena didn’t flinch. Still smiling, she followed behind him. “Hold on. The way you looked at me just now, it felt like you couldn’t stand me. But this is the first time we’ve met, isn’t it?”

Nathan replied, “Yeah, the first and also the last.”

With that, he walked off without looking back.
