“That’s not quite true. Rhea and Carter have been on the outs for ages. Divorce is only a matter of time. And I don’t think anyone can stand having an outsider be a bad influence on their kids,” Lauren explained.
With that one line, she erased all of Rhea’s hard work and achievements.
Elena didn’t know Rhea, so Lauren thought that she would probably believe whatever she said.
“I see.”
Elena put down her fork after just one bite of seafood. She didn’t find the flavor unique. Having
traveled all over the world, she had tried all sorts of cuisine.
“I should get going. I’m feeling a little tired,” Elena said, rising to her feet.
Lauren quickly pulled out a gift she had prepared in advance. “This scarf is for you. I hope you like it.”
Elena smiled. “You’re being too polite. Why treat me like a stranger?”
“Please, take it. By the way, why don’t you come over to my place tomorrow?” Lauren asked eagerly.
Elena considered it. “I’ll give you a call when I wake up tomorrow.”
“Perfect. I’ll be waiting.”
Upon hearing that she was leaving, Carter and Marcus walked her out to the car.
Elena waved to them before the window slid shut and the engine roared to life. Her gaze shifted past the glass toward Nathan’s direction.
She had received a text from Terrell.
It turned out that the man was none other than the Ravelle family’s heir, Rhea’s brother. It was no wonder he seemed to dislike her.
“Ms. Austin, do you need me to take any action?” Terrell asked.
Elena casually handed him the scarf Lauren had given her. “Give this to someone in your family.”
Terrell hesitated. “But wasn’t this from Ms. Thayer? It doesn’t seem right for me to accept it.”
Elena leaned back in her seat and chuckled. “It’s fine. I thought she honestly wanted to be friends. I don’t care about status or background, but she tried to use me to speak up for her from the very start. What a joke.”
Did Lauren think she could buy her off with a scarf? Elena wasn’t short on scarves.

She guessed that Lauren had planned to use her from the very beginning. Lauren even brought up hosting Kieran for dinner.
As if Kieran had any idea who they were.
Back at the hotel, Elena video–called Kieran, who gave her a lecture.
She listened to him without arguing. When the call ended, she followed someone new on Instagram.
That was the good thing about having plenty of friends. Finding Nathan’s profile hadn’t been hard at
all.
Just then, a text popped up from Lauren.
“Elena, should I send a car for you tomorrow morning to come to my place? We can have a proper chat. Sharon will be there. You know her, right?
Sharon? Who the hell was Sharon?
Elena thought it over and replied politely, “Just send me the address. I’ll head over myself.”
Lauren immediately sent it.
At Jamison Manor, Lauren turned to Carter excitedly. “Carter, she said she’s coming tomorrow. I told you that she and I got along, and you didn’t believe me. She agreed the moment I mentioned Sharon’s name. They’ve met before.”
Carter thought about it for a moment. “Well, that’s good news. Make sure you treat her well. Don’t offend her.”
“Don’t worry. Once I’ve rekindled things with her, I’ll get her to help us deal with the Ravelles.”
